A disappointment
The book is a disappointment. It's a little unclear to me whether this book is meant to present scholarship, or whether it intends to be a means to present comedy. In either case for me, it fails. What's gotten in my way is the author's never-ending penchant to criticize a mythological figure or mock it with a 21st Century point of view. That any high-schooler can do. Furthermore, the so-called humorous view is not so witty as it takes itself to be.The characterizations of mythological figures seem very thin, so maybe the author might have considered more depth (bigger book) or fewer characters. One might say either of those would have demanded more from the author intellectually. In this day and age (especially in university), one is encouraged to see different points of views of different groups. That is a sign of enlightenment. Many have suggested that studying different groups and cultural artifacts may allow one to see the world as almost infinitely variegated. The author has an attitude and expresses it throughout his book. I'd call it prejudice.I bought the book hoping to get insights into how various consciousnesses have expressed themselves. It is immpossible to get that understanding from this book.I'm about 60 pages into, and I have to force myself to read. It's like reading the rants of a little kid.

A fun read!
I would not have guessed that a book dealing with myths and religions from around the world could be this entertaining. Fletcher's humor shines throughout, making this educational resource all the more wonderful. The author has enlisted different artists to display the various gods and goddesses, and the art helps to bring these characters to life (so to speak). I especially like that Fletcher chose to turn his focus away from the familiar Greek and Roman mythologies in order to spotlight myths that, while lesser-known, are no less fascinating. If you have even a passing interest in what people around the world believe in, you should read this book.

Great resource for anyone interested in mythology
I loved the ease of reading with this book. It encompasses so much more than I expected. It is a treat to find a mythology book that goes beyond Greek and Roman myths and cover some of the more not so well known traditions.

This is a beautiful book! The drawings are done by many different artists, and it is good to see different interpretations in the drawings. Many books will have only a few illustrations, but this one has them every few pages. It also has a good selection of mythology, including Japanese and Chinese, which you usually do not see in other books.

Amazing
A must buy book. It does an amazing job outlining otherwise convoluted mythologies.
