This is totally a novelty item. No one actually needs perfect balls(of ice). Some might say it waters down your drink less or something like that, but i'm not picky enough about my drinks to care either way. What you do get is something just a bit more interesting than the regular tray cubes.Easy of useA bit finicky, if you want perfect balls(of ice), then you need to fill them to just the right amount, which is tricky because water expands when frozen, and there's no indicator or way to clearly see where the level is. If you overfill, instead of balls you will be delighted with erect nipples(of ice) protruding from the balls(of ice) Thus potentially attracting newborn babies to your drink (never a good thing, babies can't appreciate scotch)Releasing from the moldThe balls are a bit stiff right out of the fridge and need some foreplay to help them release(from the mold) you could achieve this by rubbing the mold vigorously, or much simpler: run it under warm water for a few seconds. Gently massaging the mold may help as well. Certainly couldn't hurt.Once released, be careful not to drop your balls(of ice) to hard into the glass, or they may crack and look very disappointing.I was offered this ball mold in exchange for my honest review, and i've honestly let the balls(of ice) hang true
