"From The Vault" is a series of live concerts from The Rolling Stones archive which are getting their first official release. "The Marquee - Live In 1971" is the latest addition to the series. The footage has now been carefully restored and the sound has been newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release of the show.

Please keep these vault releases coming!
Great to finally see this show in official quality. Keith looks a bit rough around the edges, but the band as a whole is in fine form. Let's encourage the Stones to keep the vault doors open and support these releases!

Not the best Stones, but good enough, I guess
Good early Rolling Stones stuff, but they've played all these songs better elsewhere. I didn't think it was worth $25. I recommend this only to Stones fanatics who are interested in the band's early work. Sound OK but not outstanding.

Class acts all the way
This wonderful Stones release of a previously-unissued 1971 live performance came out only a week after the glorious new Sticky Fingers re-release, and may have been a bit forgotten in all the hype as a result. But I noticed and I made sure I ordered it, and a glorious thing it is!First of all, it's a beautiful gatefold LP on hard paper stock, the LP is in a gorgeous sleeve that has a cool picture of Keith playing his plexiglass guitar from the era, and a cool picture of Mick covering up his face on the other side. And while I do find the cover a bit busy design-wise (all of the "From The Vaults" release cover designs are like that), the inner artwork is a good collection of memorabilia of the time. Nice! The songs are rippers, and there's a great version of "Dead Flowers", the seldom-played "I Got The Blues" (check out how wide Mick Jagger can open his mouth on the DVD!), and a fun 10-minute version of "Midnight Rambler" that is among the best the Stones have done of that song. The songs are mainly from Sticky Fingers, but they do go back to play a down-key near-acoustic funk version of "Satisfaction".The music on the vinyl is replicated in a DVD, which you find set into the left wing of the gatefold (not tossed into gap with the LP, as I've seen done before). The DVD replicates the concert in video form, and it's a great document!! Oddly enough, there are hardly any shots of Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman, with the camera mainly focusing on Mick Jagger and Bobby Keys (who's on fire during "I Got The Blues!!) for close-ups, and Keith and Charlie are often part of the shot. There are still plenty of cool shots of Keith boogying around, with his poses and tics, and cool harmonising on one mic with Mick in songs like "Dead Flowers". There's a few shots of Mick Taylor playing his lovely SG! Jim Price was at the show, but there's only one shot of him in the main concert (and one or two more in the outtakes in the bonus features). The club often looks empty, like they had played in a studio for the cameras only, but then from time to time we do see the audience, and even hear them occasionally (I suppose there was lots of audience management going on, this was a very well-behaved crowd). Or maybe they edited crowd shots in, it's hard to say...The bonus features are fun, containing two versions of "I Got The Blues", each nearly five minutes long. The fun part of this is how between the two songs you see the band goofing off a bit and swigging from whiskey bottles. Nice. There are also two takes of "Bitch", also each about five minutes long, that are full of some nutso editing (and some weird "thank you" and apology to someone they'd pissed off), and a nice clip of "Brown Sugar" from Top Of The Pops (4:08) with Mick in a pink double-breasted satin suit!! some nice backstage camera swings too!

The best Stones i have seen and heard
I might be mistakin but this is maybe the best i have ever heard the stones the guitar work is superb the interworking of keith and mick taylor is stunning to say the least and it only gets better the more you play this awesome sounding vinyl pressing mine was perfectly flat very quiet backround . But back to the music Bill wyman lays down Rock solid bass a most underated player no doubt but if not for him the stones would have never made it as big i belive. And then there is the fan fave Mr Charlie on gretch drum kit on Fire blazing intense primal are just a few words that come to mind maybe its because i play drums also, but i doubt anyone would deny his spectacular talant.then there is Mick as i have never heard him people he delivers the goods in spades on this made for television event simply a cut above and beyond. Yiu also get a dvd of the show brilliant camera work and DTS remasterd sound is like it was recorded today. There are also bonus takes of Bitch and the song Blues and a Brown Sugar from a 70's tv show that is outstanding i cant wait to play this again and again i dont think anyone will be disapointed matter of fact I know.I guess you can tell i love it.

As noted on previous reviews on bonus DVD discs From The Vault. The Disc supplied is Region 1 US and wont play on UK players unless you have a Multi Region DVD player. The Vinyl is fine, excellent quality disc.

The DVD was missing but another copy was sent. As for the music itself, the live album is very good, decent pressing.
