A Short But Good Series
A short and complete series. It's not my favorite but it's good non-the-less. A little funny, some gothic stuff going on, and some background romance. As for the art, I like it because it's simple and straightforward enough, although it gets a bit crowded sometimes. They use a MASSIVE amount of graytone, however, perhaps too much but all in all, was worth it.

I just really like the setting and characters
I just really like the setting and characters. The clicheness of the larger plot of the first few books really happers it though.

Wow. Wow! This is a really good one!
Alright - BUY IT NOW. No, I don't care about anything you say... BUY IT.Bought it? Really? Are you sure? Ok then, let's start.Alright, this was a buy for me out of a wim - no real reason other than it looked good from the cover. Coffins are inherently something that invokes death and burial metaphors and thoughts, so I wondered what a Coffin Princess would be. And while it was no revealed here many reasons for Chaika carrying her coffin, the prologue EPISODE 0 pretty much gives you great ideas about it, and if youa re clever like me you probably already know what's inside it...Story is great. The pace is good, introductions are good - Toru is a fit as hell former saboteur, out of job because of peace and hopelessly bored and essentially poor. Akari is his sexually harassing sister, which is a bit odd but funny as it creates misunderstandings later on. Chaika is the real mystery, and obviously so - the story will likely center around her and her intertwined fate to that of the war. The whole volume made me wonder what on earth happened, and instead of enjoying the peaceful period it opposes cliches and creates an uneasiness not often associated with such periods - instead, I looked forward to revelations of the past (surely will give feels) and events yet to unfold in future volumes. Overall, it gets everything right, including the art - it is great, and the serious and funny expressions classic to manga and Japanese readings are as good as ever. Conclusion, this is an awesome beginning (rather translation, it started in 2012) to this series, I was reminded of how much I suddenly fell in love with Gate (manga and recent summer anime) - it is sudden, interesting, and intriguing enough to have you begging for more. It had me at least. Final Verdict: MUST BUY!

this is a good and more fleshed out beginning to the Chaika universe ...
While it takes some time to get going, this is a good and more fleshed out beginning to the Chaika universe than the anime was. However, I would read this only as an added material to the anime due to the manga ending prematurly (the entire manga will only cover to the battle with Dominica.

An interesting read
Love the story and the art is very good. If you like adventure and fantasy with a story, this is a good start. There are a few scenes put in just for the "fans", which is a little annoying but it won't ruin the story nor stop you from continue reading.

Sample is Not Representative
This story begins well, but after the first few pages, the artwork degenerates badly. This appears to be a result of two factors: much less time was put into the drawings later in the book, and the artist lacks the skill required to portray action scenes. It's a shame because the character design and rendering in the first few pages is quite nice.

It was okay
~3-3.5/5Going into this volume with little knowledge of it, I wasn’t expecting this.Firstly, Toru lives with his sister. After a bad experience, he refuses to work, or do much of anything. I’m not sure why. His sister keeps pushing him to do something, to help out, though. Toru is a pretty average guy; he’s all right. Akari, his sister, though, is in love with him. In a very creepy way. I’m not a fan of her.But then Toru meets and helps Chaika, a mysterious girl traveling in the area. Chaika later hires him and his sister to help her in her quest.I would read more of this series for Chaika alone. She’s younger, I think, and speaks broken English which is charming, and I think she’s adorable and super sweet. I like her a lot, and even I’m surprised by how much. There’s also the bigger plot—that someone’s after Chaika, and she’s trying to get back something that was taken from her. We’re given hints to her past, and the volume ends with Toru beginning to tell Chaika about his.Mostly, I liked Chaika. I’m intrigued by the people who are after her, as well. I’m not sure if I’m going to read more, but I’m intrigued.[More of my reviews are available on my blog, Geeky Reading, to which there's a link on my profile.]

Different & Fun
I didn't know what to expect when I bought this but it's great, fun storyline, plenty of things going on, on the page, and excellent art, it is quite expensive however, but I'm glad I bought it.

Bit cliche tropes but still good read
Typical airhead cliche and typical big brother love though has potential as series you will have wait and see. Plus if you look at the girl you think she is a caveman but she is more a foriegner find out. Though how is she learning so much language and understand him . Oh well manga mysteries
