Amy Butler's a genius!
I love Spice Market Tote and have made it a few times. Trace the pattern pieces on freezer paper and tape together to keep the original new. Or measure the pieces for size and rotary cut, as they are all rectangles. This is a huge bag, big enough for Christmas shopping or the farmer's market. Add a self-fabric lanyard with a key fob on a swivel hook (Dritz 2") and if you have an iPad, add fusible fleece to the second large pocket. Spray the finished bag with two light coats of Scotchgard to keep the new-fabric look. I didn't prewash my fabric b/c I will only spot clean or dry clean this bag.Amy uses the "drop in" method of lining but I used the "pull through the bottom" and like it better. This bag is more expensive to make than her "Birdie Sling" but takes less time, about 4 hours including cutting it out and fusing the interfacing. Her instructions are accurate and easy to follow. Made in Amy Butler's signature fabric, quilting cotton or laminate, this is an awesome bag and fun to make for gifts or for yourself. It's not inexpensive to make but it is gorgeous when it's all done!

very poor directions
I have never used a pattern that you had to cut and paste before cutting.very disappointed with the pattern. After lots of frustration the bag is good.Thumbs down to Amy Butler.

Great bag!
I just made this bag as a Christmas gift for someone and it was pretty easy to make. There is a lot of interfacing to iron on, but that is what gives the bag some thickness and strength. I've used a couple of Amy Butler's patterns (The Weekender, The Nappy Bag and the High Street Messenger bag) and this one is one of the easier ones. I think it probably took me 4-5 hours total. Great looking bag and would be great for a variety of things. I might just have to make myself one! Thanks again Amy Butler!

Love this pattern!
Easy to make and the finished product makes a great gift. It brings two pattern sizes that are both spacious.

Butler is NO SEAMSTRESS!
Amy Butler is a designer BUT NOT A SEAMSTRESS! Her patterns DO NOT FIT together well & must be modified! You must be an experienced seamstress to reinvent her poor fit & construction. Yes! She waste fabric!... And today's fabric is NOT cheap! Using the webbed interfacing helps the bag stay well together.... But her instructions are not only poor but WRONG! I have sewn everything under the sun in my past 45 years of sewing... Hers was ridiculous! One of the seamstresses at Hancock Fabric said the EXACT same thing! If you are inexperienced as a seamstress DO NOT WASTE your money or time! My husband is in construction and gets so irritated sometimes with the architects who THINK something goes together THUS... And they have no idea that THUS does not work$
