The Detective, The Woman and The Pirate's Bounty: A Novel of Sherlock Holmes (Detective and the Woman) Paperback – April 16, 2019

Amy Thomas’s latest Holmes-Adler adventure returns to the scene of her first: Fort Myers, Florida. This time, The Detective and The Woman are in search of a pirate’s treasure rumored to be buried on Sanibel Island, which they hope to find before it falls into the hands of a mysterious criminal known only as “the Baron.” Along the way, they encounter an entertaining cast of secondary characters, including an old friend from Fort Myers, a bland American intelligence operative, a hero-worshipping young woman, and a set of federal agents for whom Holmes plays the fool. Any of these people could be “the Baron” or his henchmen in disguise. The novel does a nice job of obscuring friend from foe until the action climaxes in a scene a bit reminiscent of one from Treasure Island. As always, Ms. Thomas’s depictions of Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler are nicely drawn and faithful to the spirit of the Canon. She resists the temptation (which Baring-Gould and I could not) to carry their admiration for each other into outright romance. Another excellent outing in a series that I hope will long continue!

Just finished this book on kindle. Like all Amy Thomas' "The woman" books, this one is fantastic. It's always a bit of a disappointment when the book ends - hope the wait for the next "The Detective, The Woman and _____" isn't too long. The book is a genuine pleasure to read. If you haven't read any of this series, go back and read them all. You'll be glad you did.

This is a great story. Ms. Thomas’s portrayal of Sherlock is masterful, and her Irene is charming. Not only does she weave an exciting plot, but the beauty of her writing is captivating. Get a good cup of tea and have a seat in your favorite chair; you won’t want to get up until you’ve finished this one!

Foi uma grata surpresa conhecer os livros de Amy Thomas e minhas expectativas com "The Pirate's Bounty" foram mais que alcançadas. Não espere encontrar nesse livro um Holmes totalmente fora do personagem graças a um romance forçado com A Mulher, mas sim dois personagens sagazes trabalhando juntos numa parceria repleta de profundo respeito e admiração. Neste quarto livro, é nítido que aquela velha desconfiança já foi superada, com os dois trabalhando mais em equipe, ainda que algumas alfinetadas ainda venham a ressurgir. Amy Thomas consegue manter todas as personalidades conforme o cânone e ainda apresentar personagens carismáticos de sua autoria. Quanto a Holmes nos EUA: o lado positivo é ver o detetive desconfortável por estar em um ambiente desconhecido, onde não detém absolutamente nenhum controle sobre o que possa vir a lhe acontecer, sem contar com aliados de grande peso ou saber que inimigos pode esperar. O desfecho dele sempre nos deixa ansiosos por mais, e infelizmente estamos no escuro desde o lançamento. Uma pena. Adoraria saber quando virá o próximo livro, pois já sinto saudade da peripécia dos dois e - provavelmente - devo reler esse livro. Obviamente, depois de reler todos os outros 3 anteriores, que também são ótimos.Quanto a qualidade do livro: por ser do tipo brochura simples, infelizmente não é tão boa quanto a trilogia em volume único "The Detective and the woman", mas em nenhum momento me senti enganada por pagar quase R$ 100,00 em um livro assim, afinal eu moro no Brasil e o dólar está nas alturas... Torço para que um dia ele seja publicado no Brasil e para que eu possa falar dele sobre meus amigos que não sabem ler em Inglês, mas até esse dia chegar, pagar esses valores exorbitantes na versão física ainda é o jeito.Obs: ainda tenho esperanças de que a amizade dos dois possa vir a ir um pouco mais além... Creio que a autora deixou algumas pistas importantes sobre isso no final do primeiro livro, portanto mantenho a esperança, ainda que nada de muito concreto tenha acontecido nesse livro. Acho que ela gosta de nos ver sofrer com essa slow-burning... A conferir.
