Hard to get the coons foot out of the trap. I like the dog proof coon traps the best.

This is one of the better racoon traps. Its sturdy, you can set it by hand without any tools. It has a little door in back where you can place the bait. You can also use less bait than a duke because the racoon doesn't have to tug on anything to set it off.I would spend the extra buck or two and get it over a duke.It doesn't have some of the fancier features you might want on a deluxe trap of course. For instance there is no wifi support so you aren't going to have your trapmap app on your smartphone notify you it was sprung, you'd have to physically go out to check. Most trappers like to hand check their lines these days so its not really much of a downside lacking that feature and it helps keep the cost down.

I did not want to kill the racoons I just wanted to get rid of it! It did the job!

The short time I used this trap it caught something. That something was able to pull the trap to the end of the anchor chain and escape.

For those questioning this product, Clint did not review the Alcatraz "after just getting it." He is very thourough about product testing. I have not gotten any of the new ones but will say that wolf creek (the company that purchased this trap and now manufactures it) has cheapened many products. As to the availability, it has nothing to do with it being inferior as another reviewer has stated. It has to do with wolf creek messing up and making them unavailable for long periods of time (I have catalogs stating they are often out of stock of this trap) to the point that the companies quit messing with them and carrying their products.

Animals often pull their arm out of this trap. I am a trapper and have caught animals with the trap but I have as much failure as I do success. I recommend Duke Traps Dog Proof Trap or the 'little griz Getter'. If you watch the you tube video by the creator Clint Locklear, he brags about the trap but then admits he just got them??? So he has no actual experience trapping with it. The trap has been around for a few years but very, very few trap supply companies sell them because there are a lot better traps out there. I recommend clients instructional DVDs but this trap is one of his only failures I know of.
