🚦 Ride Smart, Brake Bright!
Vololights motorcycle brake lights alerts following drivers to your slowing whether you are engine braking, downshifting, or using the brake levers. It runs independently of your brake lights and alerts following drivers an earlier indication that your motorcycle is slowing through flashing LED lights around the license plate frame. We planned for the fact most states have slightly different motorcycle license plate sizes. While we have accounted for 47 of the 50 states, residents of Alaska, and new Mexico should check the "fit" dimensions image.

Nice product, great idea, a little lacking in execution.
The concept is very good and the unit is very nicely produced, quality product. However, I did have issues mounting it on my 2006 BMW K1200GT. The top light makes the frame too tall, so it was pushed up into the reflector. I drilled the mounting holes longer to let the unit sit lower, that worked but is a PIA. Additionally the holes for the license plate did not line up. I pushed my plate all the way in against the stop on the right but the left hole was not aligned, the right hole was perfect. Again, not a huge deal to drill the plastic backing plate to fit, but a PIA. The rest of the install was easy and simple, but as I've noted elsewhere on a BMW canbus system you MUST use switched 12V power, don't use the license plate light as (at least on my bike) the taillight and license plate light are one and the same. In fact that light is a single filament and the voltage is reduced to just 3V to run the tail light, then with brakes the same bulb is given 12V to produce a brake light. Nice idea since the brake light will come on faster, but the Volo won't work with 3V and so will only power up when the brakes are on, not the idea.I did have my son and father follow me, they said it worked as intended and is as bright as any brake light. So good stuff there, I'll buy another for my other bikes.

Great product...worth the investment!
I was very pleased with the installation of this product. On the BMW F800GT, this was NOT a 5 minute installation simply because the license plate bracket is several pieces that have to be disassembled; drill one hole for the wiring, then a bit of juggling to get it all back together. Not at all difficult but not 5 minutes either.I've not had a chance yet to have my wife drive behind me and see how it's working but I can tell you that cars behind me are definitely not tailgating and seem to slow down even when I don't have the brakes on, so I'd have to say that it is working the way it's supposed to, making it worth the investment!I had one minor issue on the first power-up, and a call to Faizal had that resolved quickly.Honestly, the install was so simple with good instructions, I find it hard to believe that anyone that is skilled enough to ride couldn't do it. The end result is a clean installation that looks very OEM.UPDATE! I noticed that neither the packaging nor the unit itself (even on the inside) says "Made in China". WOW, a new electronic product that's not made in China! I asked Faizal and he said the components are made in the USA, but final assembly is done in Mexico. The good news is that they are moving all assembly to the USA very soon. A Win-Win for everyone. Well done, Vectolabs!!

Took three returns before I got one without defects
Bought to replace my old vololight v1 after being rear ended (which the old one didn't prevent).First replacement was ordered by the bike body shop and it would not calibrate - kept flashing when the bike wasn't moving.Second replacement was ordered and one of the small screws in the back was already stripped upon arrival and wouldn't budge.Third replacement was missing one of the screws in the back all together.Fourth replacement finally installed and calibrated without issue. It seems that quality control has gotten worse over the years - I've previously owned two Vololight v1 plates and never had these issues with them. The new running lights on v2.0 do make you more visible from behind.

Installed on a 2009 BMW R1200RT without any CANBUS issues.
I got the Vololights and installed it on my 2009 BMW R1200RT. I got the power from the license plate circuit as per the instructions but the unit was malfunctioning. I emailed the company explaining what I've done and the type of bike I was installing the lights on. They promptly emailed back letting me know I needed to power the Vololights from a 12v power source since the license plate circuit on my BMW was only a 3 volt source. Once I rerouted the wiring to the correct power source, it worked without any problems. For troubleshooting purposes, when the lights were connected to the 3 volt source, only the upper light would light and the bottom light was barely lit. I could not get it calibrated or otherwise adjust the light sequence.Aside from the voltage issue, I think the Vololights work great. They alert drivers behind you when you let off the throttle and you are slowing without braking and of course when you are actively braking. I actually took me about 20 minutes to install them if you take away the troubleshooting of the lights.

Nicely constructed and simply elegant looking
Nicely constructed and simply elegant looking. I installed this on my Buell XB12. Note that you may have some clearance issues if your plate is located near the frame or seat since the Vololight is wider than a normal plate/bracket. I ended up using some spacers to bring my license plate mount down about an inch to give it enough clearance under my seat. Wiring was pretty straightforward (one black and one red wire that you splice onto the license plate light wires). Make sure to read the instructions regarding calibrating the unit and various modes of operation.

Check Your Clearance
The light's frame requires quite a bit of clearance around the license plate mount. On my Harley, the license plate mount is right under the taillight, so there isn't enough clearance to mount it. I bought some 30mm nylon spacers to try to bring out the frame, but it still didn't clear the taillight well. That it stuck out over an inch from the mount wasn't appealing. I like the concept of the Vololight, so I mounted it on my wife's scooter. Even then it required spacers, because the bottom of the light frame didn't clear the fender sufficiently and was worried the stress on the plastic license plate mount would be too much.Maybe a frame with the lights on the sides of the plate would be a more universal fit?

Open Box?
Package came pre opened. Magnet floating around, not in a bag. Surprised it was still there. No instruction with the box. We have not installed it yet as all our bikes are still in storage. Package shipped quickly.
