Excellent little cook book.
I really enjoy this small book. Need a recipe for Johnny (Hoe) Cakes, biscuits or simple recipes to cook over a fire? This booklet has them. I like the down home, easy to read stories about pioneers and their spread across the US. I have many cook books and quite a few cook books concerning pioneers - this one delivers what it promises - a few stories and quite a few simple recipes. I very much recommend this small book.

Nice little book with historical recipes
Nice little book with historical recipes. This book contains a recipe for salt rising bread that I plan on trying. Finding a good recipe for salt rising is near impossible as this bread isn't made much any more and it is the preferred bread for toast at our house.

fun book!
this is a great little book that i bought for a coworker's Santa Exchange. Fun tidbits, stories and sketches. If you are into pioneer history (we are in Oklahoma) and food, you will enjoy this. i went back and bought one for myself.

This book is fun to read.
I love reading this book. It's steeped in family type humor, and anecdotes. Very vague measurements as old home recipes were, but still able to recreate these wonderful dishes with room for your own flavors. I take this book with me on camping trips as it works perfectly for primitive style meals. It also sits comfortably in my recipe book cabinet.

A mexican review
This is a very nice book! You know, as a "Little house on the prairie" books and TV program fan, I really love this book! Photos are so nice and make me think in the hard days back in the west. It is #1 in my recipe book collection. By the way, recipes are very good with easy to follow directions.

Always something to like
When I buy any cookbook (used mostly) if I find a couple of recipes that I like it is worth the money (cheap mostly) because I will use those over and over and this had some that made me happy so it was worth it I like this little cookbook

Log cabin cooking
I don't live in a log cabin but wish that I could one day and be away from society and other people. Even though I am a man I have worked doing cooking and enjoy cooking. I have to cook for myself and my disabled mother daily. I do own a such oven and cast iron skillets and I live in the UK. Some of the recipes are useful and good to use with the such oven and skillet pans. Those types of cookware will outlive me.

Frontier living
A little disappointed, as thought there would have been more recipes on Log cabin cooking from the Frontier days. Interesting though!
