Great idea - doesnt work
The concept is excellent: replicate on the screen the way many writers organize longform narratives. No more posting handwritten sticky notes to the wall. Take half-written pieces/scenes and move them around the way you move them in your head until you see the connections, polish the throughline and eliminate the detours that slow down your story.Unfortunately, the execution is sorely lacking. The interface is not at all intuitive. The software doesn't play nice with Word. Moral of the story (as per previous review): the time invested in learning the tool is not worth the time lost when the software doesn't do what it's supposed to.I would love to see these folks (or someone else) get it right. But the task is apparently harder than it looks.

Explanation too difficult to follow. Either that or the complexity is more than I want to deal with. I sent them back for that reason.

I Really Wanted to Like This Program but it Still Needs Further Development
This program has some interesting features, however I found it very awkward to use. The word processing and formating functions were adequate. The ability to store relatively large amounts of text in multiple blocks on the same screen and to have them all available simultaneously is potentially very powerful. The ability to copy and move text between the blocks and to reorder them and to combine them into a composite document is extremely powerful. What appears to be missing is a way to coordinate and track the blocks contents beyond their physical location and assigned number. The program appears to have the ability to link blocks, however where it falls short is in the area of organizing blocks into categories and subcatagories. Color coding is helpful, but all the boxes on the screen can become overwhelming. It handles storing, combining and formatting a relatively large amount of diverse data into a single document. It needs improvement in organizing and manipulating the individual blocks. What they have done they have done reasonably well, however it is only a partial solution. It requires additional functionality to reach its full potential. I really wanted to like this program, but in its current state of development I would not recommend it,

Very good software for writers who like to organize visually, or have numerous ideas, thought they don't want to lose.
My 'week 1' impression is that Writers Blocks is very functional software for my type of organizing. Being a former construction manager on major commercial buildings I am used to visualizing what I am doing vs writing. Reading a set of Spec's only tells you what the building is made of, looking at building plans ingrains into your mind what you are building, it's visualization! An issue I noticed is that to scroll down the page, you don't use the scroll on your mouse, that causes the columns to move to the left or right...opposite of just about every software/website/application I have run across, but this does not mean it is poor software, just that in order to go from the top to middle or bottom of the column I have to go all the way to the right with my cursor and move down the page on the scroll tab which really is a pain, at least to me. Secondly, and this is a small issue but irritating, when I save a file, the name on top of the file when opened is in a very unorthodox font and extremely difficult to read. I have to stare at it to see what it says. Certainly shouldn't be rocket science to at least make it a easy to read font!. Other than those two blips, I think this software is going to work out well, at least for myself. I'll update this after several weeks of use, which may take time as I don't write as much as I would like to. Bottomline is if you are going to purchase this software, buy it here on Amazon, it's much cheaper and my money back time limit is 30 days. I used next day delivery on my prime for just a few dollars more, received it right on time. Finally, don't be surprised at the amount of registration required to license and activate your software, it seemed overkill, but try it out for yourself.

Just what I have been looking for. Good-bye Steno Pads!
Writer's Blocks 4 has proven to be exactly the tool I have been seeking for "literally" over many years. I have long been an avid steno book note taker and idea logging guy. I have a stack of wire bound pads with thousands of thoughts and ideas. A chronicle that has proven to be a very useful resource as I assemble the elements of a lecture or talk. However, this method has required my reliance on memory the general location of the item I am seeking, and then minutes or hours of searching for that particularly perfect note, quote or thought. Always wanting to become more efficient and effective (and of course less dependent upon memory) I have searched for a tech solution. My purchases of azzCardFile, Dragon, Daily Diary, The Journal and others attest to my sincere and committed effort to find a software solution. A method to enable me to capture my thoughts in an instant for future recall and assemblage into a theme, paper, speech or outline would be a fantastic find. Enter Writer's Blocks 4.While I do not use WB4 in the "traditional" sense of authoring a novel, writing a newpaper column, I do now use it frequently and consistently to "jot" a thought or observation, to categorize or assemble ideas into themes and streams of thought, and to outline a speech for a community gathering or special interest group. This tool is perfect for "pulling together" into the columns ideas that belong together. Once there, it is almost intuitive that the individual elements fall into the flow of a talk or article. Then, pulling the blocks into the Power Editor to create the tool I need is awesome. Just what I have always wanted!I am new to WB4, but a huge fan already. Easy to use and loaded with more tools than I will ever need a great value and effective addition to my computer software menu. I will be back to tell more of my experiences with WB4 as I become more familiar and more expert with its features.
