My old 1987 Lyman 500 scale still works fine. I simply wanted a spare. The new model is a little bigger and not much has changed in 30 years, although it appears to be more sensitive, especially, the last few kernels of powder with a trickler, due to a slight modification with the balancing beam.I used both scales to weigh some bullets and they came up with the same weight so I feel confident.

The scale was delivered by UPS on time. It was inside the manufacturer's retail boxing only. No shipping carton, no packing whatsoever. The hanger unit for the scale pan that goes on the extended end of the scale beam arrived in pieces inside a zip lock bag inside the box. It could not be re-assembled since a threaded hole in the soft aluminum sheet metal for a machine screw was stripped out. It appeared as if this scale had been previously sold and them returned to Amazon after being damaged by the user.Even had the scale arrived in perfect condition, it was not very impressive. The cast aluminum base was thin, light weight, and not very substantial in feel, and the pivot point knife edges were flimsy and weak looking. Typical Made-In-China quality. My original thirty year old Lyman reloading scale is still better than this new Lyman "Brass Smith" scale.I repacked the scale into it's box and it is already on it's way back to Amazon for a refund. I was disappointed in the scale, disappointed that it arrived unusable, and disappointed in how Amazon packed it for shipping. Or rather, did not pack it.
