Interesting product, many uses possible for a hacker
Interesting product. There is a lot of application I can think of.The document is available fully on the BLEHome's website. This is a bluetooth LE device, the full interface document is available, this include the unconnected message and connected interface. The device comes with firmware version 1.2, took 3 times to update it correctly to 1.3.Powers on and pairs correctly with phone/tablet correctly, including android phones.Unfortunately the company only produced an IOS app, nevertheless, with a bit of digging, it is possible to configure the device with an BluetoothLE debugging app such as LightBlue. With that said, firmware update will only be possible with the IOS app.Once the device pairs, the device start to send out temperature message once a second. It does not required pairing to receive this message. It is possible to speed up or slow down the message speed with configuration app.Capturing the advertised message can be done either with the IOS app, or bluetoothctl command on a Raspberry Pi. When set the mode to "scan on," the message from the device will show up as manufacturer Data Value, with Key of 0x0085. The format of the data string is documented in the interface document. The amount of data to advertise is configurable.
