Beautiful fabric blacks out all light
This is why I bought this fabric: My dog panics in thunderstorms and if it storms at night, her pacing and panting disturb my sleep. In order to keep her from knowing that it's storming outside I bought 6 yards of this black fabric to hang over my bedroom window on nights when thunderstorms are predicted. I draped the fabric doubly over a wooden rod and placed it on top of the window frame at the top about a week after I got it one stormy night. I couldn't detect any light at all coming through either from outdoor lights of lightening, nor could my dog. I wish I had tried this sooner. Her storm jacket works pretty well at other times of the day. The fabric is beautiful and hangs well and is finished well along all the edges. It has a nice weight. It could be used alone for sewing drapes if you wanted.

Very luxurious fabric, 99.99% blackout.
Just what I needed for living in the Alaskan Interior where it never gets dark at night. I made simple curtains to hang over my windows at to trick myself into feeling like it's night. I added a top ribbon of webbing and nailed it directly to my window--no velcro or lining. I twist it up onto a hook during the day, and drop it down at night. Since it's black, it's enough to just hang flush against my windows to block almost all light. There are some questions and comments about whether this fabric lets through any light. A very small amount of light comes through, but it's negligible. When the sun shines directly on my window, there are some very minor pinpricks of light that are visible with dark-adapted eyes, and it looks about as bright as a starry night outside. This is very thick, satiny fabric, and it feels very high quality for the price I paid. I'm submitting two photos, one taken with ambient light in my apartment with the shades down--I took a long, 1-second exposure at ISO 3600 to show the small amount of light that comes through versus the light leak through the sides (due to my simplified design with no effort to seal the edges), and I use my green Casio watch light to show that it lets out more light than the curtains. This is an exaggeration of what your eyes would see even when dark-adapted. The next photo is a 1/100 second photo under the same conditions except that a dim, 40-watt bulb is on in the room, and it looks like it's night outside--this is very similar to what your eyes are actually capable of seeing. There is direct sunlight on the window in both of these shots. This is to demonstrate that the light leak through this blackout cloth is negligible, though existent.

Excellent!
I needed this to put over a bedroom window so tge room is dark for our Grandaughter. It works so well. I didn’t make curtains out of it, I actually sewed Velcro to the fabric and hung it directly onto window to make sure no light came through and NO light comes through! Fabric is so thick and has such dense color no light is getting through! I highly recommend this product you’ll be happy you bought it!

Fabric is fine, measurement received not as advertised
I don't sew, know little about high quality fabric but this meets the "blackout" that I was looking for. Rating reflects a misrepresentation of qty, I ordered qty of 3 which according to the listing is "3 yards (Qty=3) is 54'' x 108''. I received 104" on the long end but it was enough for my project.

Effective
Best I can tell, I get about total blackout from this. I bought it to use with a red/infrared light therapy health device to block out parts of my body I don't want to treat. The red light is very bright and intense. I can hold a single layer of fabric in front of the light and nothing appears to get through. Same thing with any light, nothing gets through. Very satisfied.

Works great, except...
So I bought this cloth to cover some lights that stay on all night. Works great, no light gets through. My only problem is they obviously cut this from a roll and just send it to you unhemmed. So it's going to be hemmed at some point before it unravels. Thing is they could have hemmed it w/ a glue stick and I would have paid more(let's say $5) Instead it's an unnecessary hassle I have to deal with on an otherwise perfect product. I probably won't buy from them again because of this.

Great Material - Works well
The item arrived quickly and is great. It's definitely sun-blocking. It's thick and feels durable. (insert Michael Scott joke here.) I’ve included a pic showing it over a window with direct sunlight on it. But the pic is deceiving. The light looks so much brighter in the pic than it actually is. It doesn’t darken 100% but it works really well.
