Mini-Cakes: Tiny Treats to Surprise & Delight

I don't know what I was thinking... I'm not a fan of fondant at all, but the photos were so lovely...! It's a nice book for my cookbook collection, but I probably won't be making any of the cakes with the fondant decorations. Still, the book does have lots of charm and many recipes others will likely enjoy. It's worth a buy.

Perfect for beginners. Easy step by step diagrams.

This is an okay book for ideas. It only has 17 different designs for small cakes. Small cakes as in 6 inch diameter. The designs are simple and colorful that can be made by even a novice at cake decorating. The book includes templates for some of the designs. The first few pages gives a description on ingredients, recipes and techniques which I think could have been left out. The individual who buys this book should already know the basics of cake decorating.

I bought the book because I was interesting in the process of creating the mini-cakes from beginning to end. There are too few designs in the book, only 17. The author's approach centers around fondant and paste which while cute is not very edible. All of the designs are also so chunky and cartoony. There is nothing delicate about any of the cakes other than their size. Honestly they strike me as looking more like play-dough creations than actual food. I would browser this one in the bookstore, but leave it there.

What a waste of money...Really thought it was a cute idea to give 'mini cakes' as gifts, but not much to the book for the price and what little is there is pretty unimpressive. Haven't tried the few cake recipes yet, maybe that will be the saving grace. But, from just the mini cake decorating photo examples, I am TOTALLY unimpressed!

I love that this book has detailed photos to elaborate people with fondat. Cakes are easy to make, but they seems like hard to perform.

Its okay

Often I try to sneak a look at a title in a bookshop before returning to Amazon to complete the purchase, but, because this is a book available before it is actually published (no idea how that works...), I just bought on spec.I was hoping for a range of techniques and ideas - with perhaps a range of recipe ideas to go with the designs. Yes, there are some basic recipes - but not particularly tailored for small cakes and there are some designs. A number of them are quite attractive but all pretty much in the same style.Perhaps I should have done my research rather more thoroughly - but I would have thought that a book about mini-cakes would have covered a wider range of techniques, ideas and styles.Others may be more enthusiastic about it, but I would advise having a look at a copy in your local bookshop to make sure it is what you were looking for before committing to the purchase.Ah well..
