Uncomfortable and difficult to do properly
I'll start off by saying: I DID NOT GET A DISCOUNT TO WRITE A REVIEW. Looking over the reviews I was REALLY surprised at how many people have this in their 4 & 5 star reviews. And as one of the 1-star reviews points out, there are a lot of unverified purchase reviews on the same day. Now that that's out of the way, let me tell you about this product:Pros:- Small, minimal mouth guard- You get two of them in a packageCons:- VERY difficult to mould properly: The guard kept slipping out of the tray into hot water (this ruins it, by the way, as it spends too much time in the water and shrinks), or if I didn't let it fall into the water it felt like it wasn't quite soft enough and didn't properly form to my teeth- They send you two to try and compensate for how difficult it is to mould- The price is high considering they basically only think you'll manage to get one of the two working properly (good luck)- The hardness of the thing was pretty uncomfortable, and they suggest you wear it for two weeks in the evening before actually using it normally just to get used to how it feelsI've been using mouthguards for years because I grind my teeth in my sleep. I've been sick of the current guard I use, which is very comfortable, but very large. Its size was displacing my tongue and increased the chance that I would start snoring, so I thought I would try this guard to see if the slim size would help.It is very small, and I was really excited to try it out. It comes with two plastic forms that you can fit to your teeth. One is in a nice little plastic bag, the other in the included case. I started with the one in the case, but the problem with it is that the tab on the blue tray that you hold onto was folded under the tray and would not straighten out. This may seem minor, but it was particularly bad because it does two things: 1) Makes it hard to hold the tray at the right angle and 2) makes it so the guard that needs to be tightly nestled inside the tray is loose because the tray is distorted by the folded handle. The problem here is, as the instructions indicate, you need to boil water and put it into a little mug, which I did. Then you need to submerge the tray and hopefully you can both submerge the whole guard while NOT allowing it to slip off the tray. This proved to be nearly impossible, and the guard slipped right off the tray almost immediately. The instructions indicate that you should keep the guard in there for 8 seconds, or fewer (why so inspecific?!) and then immediately bite down onto the tray to form the guard. The problem is that, when the guard falls into the water, it is no longer supported by the tray and it got all folded over itself by the time I managed to fish it out. I still put it quickly back into the tray and tried to form it to my teeth, but the thing was ruined, and then after hardening it shrunk a TON. Turns out that if you leave it in hot water for too long it has a tendency to shrink, and the thing is already about as small as it should get to begin with.So I tried the second guard and this time it stayed in the form just fine because it was in the nice little plastic baggy, not getting all misshapen. I boiled more water, put it in my mug, and this time I kept it in there for 7 seconds to avoid "overcooking" another guard. I took it out of the water and bit into the tray and... the plastic wasn't quite soft enough. It barely took any impressions from my teeth, and I KNOW I followed the instructions very carefully. I've done this with mouthguards at least a dozen times in the past without issue, and for some reason the instructions on this thing are way off from the reality of making it correctly.I tried wearing this second guard and it simply didn't stay in place. It was a total mess, and so I decided it would be worth boiling water AGAIN and trying once more. This time I left the guard in for JUST more than 8 seconds, and the thing STILL wasn't quite soft enough. It took my bite a little better, but it still wouldn't stay in place. So I let it harden completely and gave it one more shot. This time the thing slipped right out of the tray, and luckily I had a fork nearby to quickly get it out of the water again. I got it into the tray without it folding over on itself, and quickly bit down on it. This time it was nice and soft and formed around my teeth pretty well. I let it sit in place for a second, and then I pulled it out of my mouth and let it harden. A few minutes later I come back and the thing had shrunk. I wondered if that was simply how it is supposed to be and put it into my mouth and the thing was TIGHT around me teeth, to the point of being uncomfortable, like it was trying to shift my teeth inward a little bit. I shrugged it off and tried wearing it that night and it was so uncomfortable that I gave up on it. I don't want to realign my teeth to some shrunken mouth guard, thank you very much. No wonder they claim you need to wear it for short periods of time the first two weeks to get used to it: The thing is forcing your teeth to fit to it, instead of it being ready to fit to your teeth. So back to the drawing board. Hopefully I'll find something out there that is nice and slim and not so aggressively tight.

Did not live up to the hype.
After complaining of headaches and jaw pain, the dentist said I was grinding my teeth at night and gave my husband the same diagnosis. I couldn't find any mouth guards at our pharmacy that I liked, so I looked for one on line. Most had about a 3 star review. I wasn't very impressed. But then, this one had 5 stars and it was under $50! In Amazon terms, that is a unicorn. So, of course I bought 2. Each package came with two trays, so you get two tries to mold it to your teeth. I thought for sure we could get it right once. The first attempt was a disaster. I left it in the water a bit too long, but it managed to hold its shape. I put it in my mouth and bit down. When I pulled it out, I instantly found a problem. Either my teeth are a bit bigger than the average person's or I wasn't biting right. I'm certainly not ruling out operator error on this one. My husband did his first one as well and it seemed to work okay for him. While I went to get my second tray, my husband kept working on his mold- which turned out fine. While I was making mine, he took his mold out of his mouth and let it air dry. I attempted to make another mold, which worked that time, but it wasn't comfortable at all. I pulled it out and followed the directions and let it cool. When we went back to try on our molds again, they had shrunk. But, while we were goofing around and laughing about our "mold problems", we tried on the blue rubber tray that is supposed to be discarded. We both found that to be very comfortable- miles ahead of what the intended tray felt like. So, we have opted to use the blue rubber tray.

Hard to mold right, uncomfortable, seems worth the money to splurge on a higher quality kit
I was drawn to these because the marketing made it seem like they would be easy to custom form to fit my teeth. I appreciated that they supplied two forms, because it was indeed easy to screw up one of the forms by "cooking" it too long (as mentioned in many reviews, the full 8 seconds seems too long). I definitely got the material soft, but upon biting down on it and letting it meld to the shape of my teeth, it seems to have sort of melted and settled in a shape such that there is a plastic ridge on the top edge, sort of pushing into my front gums while I wear it.The problem is, I managed to mess up the second one, too. I probably undercooked it out of fear of overdoing it like the first one, the result being it didn't really seem all that well custom fit to my teeth. It didn't dig into my teeth or gums but also didn't really stick in at night. I found it on the floor of my bed after wearing it the first night.I ultimately decided that a $30 night guard solution is too good to be true, and I'm currently trying my luck with another product: Custom Dental Night Guard for Teeth Grinding - Pro Teeth Guard. 365 Day 100% Money Back Guarantee. Size: Adult-Male. This is quite a bit more expensive but promises to be a dental-office quality night guard that is not only custom fit to my mouth but will undoubtedly be made of a more comfortable plastic than the very hard rigid plastic that comes with this DIY set.
