A laugh-out-loud mystery!
This book is funny, clever, and has great twists and turns. You'll fall in love with Pickle - Wilma's beagle and sidekick who seems to always be eating the clues. You'll feel like you are in on the jokes too and just one step ahead of Wilma. Makes for an empowering reading experience!

not for my kids
A lot of rude "humor" that is just gross not funny. And allusions to somewhat ludicrous but still serious child abuse. Almost like the author is trying to make the abuse seem funny maybe? I read a couple chapters and returned to library. Won't be letting my kids read it. There are much better books out there.

Enjoy with a plate of corn crumbles
Read this with my nine year old daughter, She did the voices of the characters I did the bits inbetween (her Barbu D'Anvers is excellent). I downloaded this onto my Kindle complete with illustrations as I want my daughter to try reading someone other that Jacqueline Wilson. The characters are wonderful and the narrative moves along briskly. What I particularly liked was that Emma didn't compromise with the use of vocabulary and although this meant defining some of the longer and less familiar words to my daughter this is how you build up your own vocabulary after all. I have now downloaded the 2nd book Wilma Tenderfoot and the Case of the Putrid Poison and am looking forward to reading it with my determined little girl. I hope Barbu D'Anvers is in it. Wilma Tenderfoot
I really warmed to Emma Kennedy's central figure in this easy-to-read story. Wilma is a delightful little girl, trying her hardest and not always getting things right. The story galloped along and the other bit players all had instantly distinguishing characteristics. As a would-be detective, I look forward to reading of her further adventures and wish her every success in her quest.

Thirteen year old couldn't put it down!
Thirteen year old girl laughed all the way through it and couldn't put it down. She devoured the entire series and loved them all. Maybe not as 'edgy' as some modern books but not all thirteen year olds want to read about boy bands. She's a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, so this was a nice modern detective alternative. She loved the fact that it featured a 'girl' detective. Delivered very promptly.
