It's Our Ship: The No-Nonsense Guide to Leadership

Great book
I had the privilege of hearing the author speak passionately about his naval and business experiences and read the book in just a few sittings.Great down to earth analogies between a navy ship and a business. All of us are on our own voyage and encounter the perils and pleasures of the adventure that is our individual business. The book is very thought provoking for anyone wanting to improve their organization. Don't expect a how to book, but rather one that allows you to think about how you can apply the concepts to your business and encourage your team to be their best. Bought more copies for my staff and plan to involve the whole organization in this process of business improvement over the next 6 months.Company president

More than "old wine in new bottles"
There are countless leadership books available, and many of them simply repackage the old chestnuts in a new context or apply new terminology to the same principles. Michael Abrashoff somehow manages a different take on leadership. His success in turning around a ship and making it the pride of the fleet gives him credibility, as does his willingness to make the right decision even in the face of the unforgiving military promotion machine, recognizing that he was signaling the end of his rise through the ranks. Abrashoff's compassionate but firm style would serve many leaders well, regardless of their field. "It's Our Ship" an easy but provocative read and well worth the time.

Good Leadership Advice
As a leader in a CEO role, this book really affirmed my own leadership style. It had been recommended to me by somebody who works with me, citing that I would enjoy it because it's "your kind of leadership." They were right. I did pick up some nice tips, but it was more in the vein of adding to what I know. The stories in the book are engaging and illustrate very well the points being made. I definitely recommend this one!

Great Leadership Advice
I recommend this book for anyone who is a leader of any group of people. The principles in this book are very practical and easy to implement. I read this book and sited it in a college research paper. I am giving it to my nephew who is currently attending college and desires to become a youth minister.

A great companion for "It's Your Ship
I have listened to this book a few times already. A great companion for "It's Your Ship," as it not only expands from some of the stories in the first book, but adds new ones. Even to include stories from organizations he has come across in his lecture circuit who have utilized some of his leadership/management philosophies. No need to understand military or Navy speak either. Additionally, to have the book narrated by Captain Abrashoff, just as in "Its Your Ship," is fantastic. He provides emotions that would only come from the author. He peaks at areas of importance, and flexes his tones and pitch accordingly. A fantastic read/listen!

Makes me want to join the Navy and see if I could do it like he did
I use this book as a key part of my business leadership course I teach at Southern Virginia University. Chock full of stories of how to be the leader most text-books only give you theories and platitudes about. Makes me want to join the Navy and see if I could do it like he did!

Not as good as the first.
I like this book, but it is very similar to the first with a whole lot more name dropping of people that Captain Abrashoff has worked with in the past. The original book was my favorite leadership story I have read, but this one felt more like a consulting commercial.

Good book,
The only thing is that for those whom read the first book "ITs YOUR SHIP", it has too many parts where the text is the same story as the previous one. Like the first one way more
