Do Something
This is a well written guide to being active about our lives, our beliefs and our expectations. Loeb embraces and draws upon almost all believe systems, faiths, ideologies and political persuasions. Whatever we believe in, whatever side we're on, this book encourages us and guides us to take action. Loeb explores many nuances and layers of being actively involved in our lives. He draws upon powerful accounts of how very ordinary people have made huge differences with their lives. Equally enlightening are his explanations of the background events that have led up to many major turning points in history. The compelling message throughout: Don't sit on the sidelines thinking, worrying or complaining ... DO SOMETHING.

Helped me not to give up!
Thanks to Paul Loab for his wonderful book, Soul of a Citizen: Living with Conviction in a Cynical World (New York: St. Martin's Griffin, 1999) where he forcefully affirmed the laudability of being an activist as a socially acceptable outlet.I especially benefited from Loab's extensive discussion on the topic of "Compassion Fatigue."But, the most important gift that Loeb gave me was to not "give-up too quickly."To actually dare me to try yet again, even, after all my bad experiences, even, because of my bad experiences. He taught me that I do not need to be more isolated then I have to be.That just because I had a bad experience in the past, does not mean I will necessarily have a bad experience in the present or the future.Instead, I needed to be open, to being pleasantly surprised.

Still a great manual for citizen activism
I had acquired the first edition a couple of years ago, and was energized by the author's findings. After learning about the updated edition, I ordered that one, and couldn't be more pleased. This expanded work is even better than the first, with added content. "Soul of A Citizen" should be on every bookshelf as a reminder that "ordinary" citizens DO make a difference, and that you don't have to be a saint, or mystic to accomplish this. Just live your values--believe me, you are not alone; other like-minded people will gladly join in on the path to social change.

one word BORING
Quite literally the worst book I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading. Author doesn’t ever get the the point and keeps repeating the same phrase every paragraph.

Great Price and Book!
This book came quickly and it was nice and new and crisp. The content of the book is good and it is an easy read as it flows nicely and contains interesting information. This was a required text for one of my classes which is why I bought it but I read more than I thought I would, as it capture my attention on several topics in encompassed.

Incredible experience!
I LOVED this book! I just finished it and thoroughly enjoyed every word. I loved the way it made me feel--far from hopeless, but inspired, renewed and invigorated. It was philosophical yet practical, and I now somehow have the feeling that even doing a LITTLE to improve the world, is doing a lot. It's strange to read something and actually feel like a "better person" for having done so! I've never had that happen before. I feel better for wanting to become more active, better for being as active as I already am, (even though it isn't nearly as much as I'd like it to be,) and better for wanting to share what I've read with others. This book, which was a gift to me from a dear friend, will now be a gift FROM me to many deserving people!
