A Very Good Model Train
This is a solid model train with a great locomotive and nice cars. My child loves the smoke and sound effects of the train. Unfortunately, there is no volume control on the sound. The tracks do take effort to connect, but the track pieces are solid.

Great deatil
My Grandfather was a conductor on the NYC from 1900-1950. I bought the freight train for the engine and then added rail king passenger cars. The set works, is easy to setup and can be controlled from an app on a tablet or phone (Android or IOS) . The usual track connectivity on carpet issues are about the only issue I saw, but that's not germane to this particular set. Great product

From excited
I’m very disappointed in your product. I purchase this train for my sons 8th birthday. He was so excited to receive it. He played with it for less than a week. Then the train stop working. So I took it to a neighborhood train toy store and they informed me that the board needed to be changed. So 45 dollars and about a month later I still haven’t got it back. Imagine his sadness how disappointed.

A fantastic set for beginners or experts!
The media could not be loaded. My 7 year old is the ULTIMATE train enthusiast. No, really. He's been in love with trains since he could sit up and if anything, his ardor for them has only intensified over the years. Perhaps his passion is enhanced by the fact that he has autism and really fixates on certain hobbies and interests, but whatever the reason, this boy knows everything there is to know about trains and has more train sets than I can count! His favorite sets are his Lionel O scale bluetooth trains that he can control with his iPad. Not only are these extremely high quality and beautiful trains but they are FAST, responsive and reliable. Unlike many of other brands, they don't derail and the tracks stay together! This New York Central is a fantastic addition to their O Scale lineup with a gorgeous and detailed loco, speaker tender, lit caboose and a great looking assortment of cargo cars. My son LOVES that these trains come with liquid smoke and I love that the smoke these engines produce isn't overwhelming or smelly like some we've had of other brands. This is one happy boy! He loves his New York Central! My only complaint about Lionel's o scale track is that over time certain piece tend to lose connectivity and drop signal. We clean them thoroughly but sometimes certain pieces just stop working for seemingly no reason which can be frustrating. Generally speaking though, I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about this train set! Pairing with the smart phone or tablet app is a cinch and is very reliable. I love the additional features you can use in the app that aren't available on the remote itself. That being said the remotes are very responsive and reliable as well! You won't be disappointed in the quality, performance and look of this set!

Like the good ol’ days
I loved Lionel train sets as a kid. The metal tracks, heavy metal, illuminated and steaming engines, full metal cars. Sets were made with good quality, although as a kid, the tracks were a pain to keep together and sometimes operate with the tiny metal fasteners, especially on carpet. Lionel and Tyco were two of my favorite brands of my childhood for model trains and slot race sets.. Fast forward several decades and although Lionel is still around, Tyco is long gone. When I realized Lionel was still making train sets, I decided to try one. I first tried a ready to run set. Although the set was fun and did rekindle some memories of my youth, it just did t feel quite “real” like I remembered. The engine and cars are made of entirely plastic as well as the tracks. I decided to try this NYC Flyer set which is closer to what I remember playing with as a child. It does not disappoint. The engine is solid, heavy and made of metal. The cars all have a more realistic feel as well. The tracks are metal atop a plastic base, which eliminates the issues with using the set on carpet that I experienced as a kid. The engine lights and smokes. The controllers have improved dramatically. No more heavy metal box with a lever for making the train move. Although that old style box seemed more realistic as far as operating the trains, I like the new system with Bluetooth enabled controller which thankfully retains lever operation rather than buttons. This set is very fun to run. My only lament is that model trains have apparently moved into serious hobbyist territory, as evidenced by the price. Once upon a time, you could get a metal set like this for under fifty bucks. Now they cost several hundred dollars. The ready to play sets are more geared toward mainstream consumers but as I indicated above, more plastic and toy-like. For more serious hobbyist however, this is an excellent looking and running set.

Great quality train to add to your set!
The train itself is amazing quality. It's heavy and sturdy. The connecters between the train cars aren't fantastic, but they are good enough. This comes with smoke fluid. It includes an AC adapater. You don't have to do any wiring if you don't want to. We had it up and running within a few minutes of opening the box.You are buying this for the train. It's not great as a starter set on its own because it doesn't include enough track for you to do anything interesting besides go around in a hoop. We're very happy with this train. It looks good, feels good, and it responsive to the controls. Smoke functionality works great.

Great set
This is such a wonderful set. It is so nice to have this. This company has obviously been around for a very long time, and their trains are great. It worked fine. It was easy to use. The kids loved it. This would make a great gift, too. I would recommend it.
