Works like a charm, just be prepared
The UV Pet Urine Detector Kit works exactly as described. And that's the problem. If you aren't ready to find every single place in your house where there's pee, don't get this kit. To say that I was surprised, disappointed, dismayed . . . well, that would be about right.Since my boyfriend moved in with his 5 cats, expanding the count in the house to 7 cats and two dogs, we knew that some of the cats had been urinating on the living room carpet in one of the corners (what is it about corners, anyway?). One of the cats is elderly and there's two neutered males who both think they're in charge, so it really wasn't surprising that they started this "pissing battle". We've got 7 litter boxes and were hoping that would do the trick and keep them from peeing everywhere. So much for hope.I rented a carpet cleaner thinking it would do the job. What I didn't know is: The carpet scrubber, carpet cleaner and enzyme cleaner I used didn't get rid of the actual stains on the carpet. The cleaning may have taken care of the smell, for our noses, but apparently didn't do much to eliminate the stain. And, where there's still stain, there's still the chance the cats will be using the carpet once again. Or, um, twice...Now we know where the actual stains are, and can eliminate them. The peturinekit.com people provide you with plenty of information, including a home recipe for a cleaner that will get rid of the stains. They also recommend an enzyme cleaner. One other comment - as others have mentioned, don't take this into your bathroom(s). Man, you think your cats are bad!

Works Great but I’m DISGUSTED !!!
I arrived home late after work and there was my package. I opened the kit and quickly installed the batteries for the black light, put on the glasses, glanced at the guide and was ready to roll. I barely made it around the corner and “BOOM” a glowing patch on the wall to the left of the front door. Now I know why the house had a faint smell of pee the last two weeks when I’d walked in the door. Checked the balance of the house and found only one more spot by a window. The guide mentioned ‘spotting other cats outside and marking’ so I think this is the problem because it just started happening. I skipped the homemade recipe in the guide because I did not have the energy and ordered a cleaner next day shipping. This is why I’m disgusted. Curiosity got the best of me so I started checking the bathrooms and other places the cat does not hang out and let me just say “cats are cleaner than humans”.Bottom line is it worked great and I’m happy with the purchase.

Worked while it worked - alternate light suggestion
from the very beginning the button on the bottom would push into the casing, requiring me to take it apart and push it back out. Annoying but no big deal. On one of these small annoying fixes, the battery holder fell out and broke. The batteries are no longer held in tight, rendering it useless. While it worked it was very helpful in detecting pet spots, especially with the glasses. Do note that even after you clean up a spot (2-3 times) it may still glow.I also used the recipe for cleaning stains. I did test spots on all the carpet, but apparently didn't give it long enough. Do NOT rush the testing. Most of the carpets were fine, but the wool carpet bleached out. A very very expensive mistake.UPDATE (May 2015) my cats have been better about using their boxes, but I still find a spot on occasion, which made me miss having a blacklight. I purchased LEDwholesalers 395 nM 51 UV Ultraviolet LED flashlight Blacklight 3 AA, 7202UV395 on Amazon as a replacement. It is a huge improvent over the blacklight that comes with this kit. It's heavier and sturdier and has a better design in terms of power button and battery compartment. Functions the same way, but better quality. I'm glad to have the glasses still.

Great kit
These guys are really on top of it. They communicated even before we received the kit with an online version of the guide. The kit came and had everything needed. The instructions are detailed in explaining how to use the light and what issues might fool you or cause to failed detection. There was even a follow up email to check on arrival and offer further help. Overall I'm very impreessed.

Very Disappointing
The directions for the use of this item are confusing at best. There is no explanation as to why the kit includes 4 batteries for something that holds only 3 batteries and the description of how the batteries should be installed are completely useless.

Waste of Money for Dog Urine
Does not work very well. I know the dog peed on the rug because I can smell it, and see the stain when I flip the rug over. Turned off all the lights but nothing showed when I flashed the Black Light on the spot.

Great kit
This kit is awesome! It's great for finding hidden spots. For existing spots I already cleaned, it helped me determine if I'd really cleaned them or if they needed more work. The kit included a brief guide about how the light works and ways to clean up stains. The seller also emailed me the guide before my kit arrived. But one tip: examining your house is nothing like an episode of CSI. You will see lots of random glow spots throughout your house. I'll be honest, my house is dusty. And dust glows! Probably because it's made up of proteins like dead skin cells and cat dander. I would recommend vacuuming before using the blacklight, just so you aren't distracted. Also there were spots high up on my door frames. After a closer look, it was the old paint mistakes bleeding thru under the black light. I think this is because some paints contain phosphorus, which glows under the black light. I doubt the cat peed all the way up there or it's blood stains. But it was puzzling at first glance. So don't freak out about random small glow spots. Focus on the big spots and the surrounding areas. Good luck.
