Star Trek meets Night of the Living Dead
Jim Pike grew up a Trekkie, but two tours in Afghanistan changed him. He had been a decorated officer, but now he was hiding from responsibility. He was a glorified bellhop in an out of the way Houston motel. It's the site of Gulfcon, a large Star Trek convention and the place is packed with costumed Trekkies, including his sister and her friends. Then things start to change. People are getting sick and co-workers walk outside and never return. And there are those stumbling figures in the shadows. Zombies? No way. But it can no longer be denied. Soon Houston has been overwhelmed and only Jim and a handful of Trekkies survive. Well, a handful off Trekkies and Princess Leila, who seems to be in the wrong movie. This is a fun zombie thriller with a thrilling storyline and good characters. All the Star Trek and Star Wars references just add to the fun, without taking away the suspense. For example, the hotel is named the Botany Bay. Anyone who has seen the Wraith of Khan will get the humor. Recommended to all zombie android sci-fi fans.

LOVE IT
5 FREAKING STARSOMG if anyone knows me, they know I'm a huge Star Trek fan. I love the show, love reading the novels and getting deeper into the Rodenberry universe. I love learning about the show, the characters, behind the scenes, the history behind the alien cultures depicted... I've even taken classes at the STARFLEET Academy to learn more.Yep, I am Commander Angela Spugnardi (OMG she has a pen name!) in the STARFLEET Fan Organization, I run the college of Genealogy and assist with the college of Communications and just received my Boothby Award for completing over two hundred academy courses.Still not impressed by my nerd credentials? That's ok, I don't need your adoration (LOVE ME!), I have my love and devotion forever tattooed on my arm.So when I say, as a living, breathing Trekkie, that Night of the Living Trekkies was fanastic, you know I'm telling my honest opinion. If someone screwed up my Star Trek with horrible books (Shatner) I'd be more than ready to spread my outrage all over social media. (Shatner shat on Star Trek)Night if the Living Trekkies has so much to like for Star Trek fans and Star Wars fans alike. Let's all get along folks π There are so many references to both franchises that I couldn't help but squeal with delight all the way through. You don't have to be an all out Trek nerd to enjoy this book, yes there are deeper and more nerdy jokes than some may understand if they're not as crazy Trekkie like me, but there is so much to like about this book and so much to still enjoy. And if you don't understand those nerdy references I'm talking about-Go watch more Star Trek! πThe chapters are cleverly named after Trek episodes and the curse of the red shirt prevails as the Trekkies test their warrior skills with very real replicated weapons on hordes of Trekkie zombies. The book is so clever and original in a time inundated with zombie stories. It's a mix of a Star Trek episode with a Resident Evil, super beings twist, only you can actually believe there's a chance of surviving this scenario.I think I'm going to have to start looking into Quirk Books because this is exactly the kind of read I've been looking for!

Night of the Living Trekkies is good stuff.
I really liked this. It was a pretty quick read loaded with Star Trek and Star Wars references. I found the fact that the chapter titles were Star Trek episode titles was pretty funny as well. The book doesn't go too deep into most of the characters other than Jim (the main character) so you really don't care too much for the secondary characters (well 2 others but I don't want to give away too much). The book goes all out outlandish towards the end of the book but isn't a zombie outbreak outlandish enough? Add in the fact it is at a Trekfest and well you get the idea.

An amusing read for Trekkers and Trekkies
Do you love Star Trek? Do you enjoy zombie stories? If so, you'll enjoy this book. What starts out as a Trek convention turns into a zombie apocalypse. Our hero, Jim Pike (get it? Chris Pike and Jim Kirk combined) is a combat vet struggling with PTSD and guilt. He has an assistant manager job at a second class hotel where the con is taking place. Circumstances bring out the Captain Kirk in him as he and a small band of survivors work to escape the hotel. There are lots of Trek references, especially the original series, my personal favorite. Some reviewers found it annoying, but I enjoyed them. There are a few twists and turns, no spoilers here, but this isn't a complicated plot. There is some humor, and the writing is decent as is the editing. The story is complete, no cliffhangers, and it's a fast read. This was the perfect book for me to read while traveling out of state for my mother's funeral, distracting without requiring much thought. My thanks to the author.

Surprising and well done.
Although I would not recommend this to people who hate Star Trek it is quite enjoyable if you're even a casual fan. I grew up on Star Trek and Doctor Who and was surprised at how many references I picked up. I read it in two hours and recommend reading it in print as the audio is difficult to find and terrible. But I found this very creative, engaging and although I don't wish to spoil this is a science fiction novel. There are plentiful jokes but I found the explanation for the zombie plague creative and unique. Also it would have been a great idea for a episode of Discovery or DS9 with a zombie plague.Highly recommended

Zombies and Trek... what more could you ask for?
First of all, a confession: this story brings together two of my great loves, Star Trek and zombies. Ok, my greatest loves are my wife and kids, but they don't feature in the book, so we're heading down the list a bit, but even so...I became aware of its existence through the trailer on YouTube, which I found extremely funny (although it transpires it bears little relation, narrative-wise, to the plot of the novel), and decided it was probably merited a read.My first reservation was the fact that some years ago I'd read Star Wreck, a so-called parody which I found excruciatingly difficult to read, given that I found nothing at all even remotely amusing in it. This could be just as painful, or even worse! My second reservation was the whole "Trekkie-culture" parody thing, which I assumed would be some guy who has a grudge against Trek making Trekkies/Trekkers look like life's biggest losers (or an uneducated fanboy trying, and failing, to lift the profile of his pastime into a respectable position)My third reservation was the fact that the nominal hero is called Jim Pike. Yes, that's right. Jim Pike.So I got the book anyway. It reads as neither a parody nor a comedy, although there are moments of both, and done well at that. The story centres on a group of fans attending a convention trying to survive against a zombie horde. The text openly references Dawn of the Dead, and makes no apology for it. But there are so many Trek references (no, I'm not telling you, find them yourself...) that it's clear the author has a profound love of Trek and the culture it promotes. The Star Trek/Star Wars grudge match also gets an honourable mention in a cool way...Despite the book giving all the outward appearances of a vanity-published fanboy work, complete with the "unauthorised by anyone connected with Star Trek" tagline, this is a well-crafted story with fantastic pacing, genuine suspense, and a simple but captivating plot. Jim Pike makes for a very believeable character. The in-jokes are scattered liberally, but serve only to enhance the story rather than detract from it.I feel I owe it to people reading this review to find something to criticise about it in order to present a balanced article. I'm sorry, I just can't. It's worth five stars, and that's it.Someone, somewhere, in an official Star Trek capacity should read this book and give the author a place on the writing team. Or at least ask them to organise the next convention. But without zombies...

Great combination of humour, action and geekiness
This book was recommended to me by my boyfriend, who knows I'm a big ol' geek. I love Star Trek and I love horror, so he knew I would really enjoy a book where a Star Trek convention gets taken over by zombies. He probably regretted the recommendation when insisted on reading late into the night and my snorts of laughter kept him awake. This is a very well written book, which is humourous and contains just enough Star Trek references to keep Trekkies happy but not enough to thoroughly bore non-fans. The same goes for the zombie aspect - it's exciting but not overly geeky. There's plenty of excitement and a great little twist that means these aren't your traditional zombies.I want to rave on and on about the book but I'm afraid if I do that I'll fill this review with spoilers. I'll just finish by saying that fans of either genre should give this book a go - I don't think you'll regret it.

so-so but entertaining enough
I liked it.. but it was a bit like a can of pringles. Nothing particularly special, (and probably not the authors finest work)... but salty enough that you kept on taking one more.Same way as the can of pringles, when you were finished, you had a vague feeling that, "was it really worth it to have eaten the whole can?"Overall I think it was.

Actually quite fun
With a bright cover (that reminded me of the old Gold Key comics) this looks like another jump on the bandwagon of the twist on a zombie tale. But actually it is quite fun and not the churned out rubbish you might assume at first glance. A zombie outbreak starts at a Star Trek convention and a young hotel worker has to try and figure out how to survive with a small group of friends. It's a short and expensive book but it is written well enough and packed full of in-jokes, if you are a Star Trek fan and/or have been to a Trek convention this will definitely appeal. Four stars then for anyone with a Star Trek inclination but overall three stars because I think those who are not Trek fans may not quite get all the jokes. Sadly I got them all which says a lot about my youth.Oh and check out the book title on YouTube - a very amusing promo for the book.

A fun easy read
I really enjoyed this book, sadly it took no time at all to read but that's partly because I didn't want to put it down. A very traditional zombie story but the trek angle is what kept me interested. Saying that I did find they went a bit far with the explanations, surely someone reading this book will be fairly well versed in the trek Universe and therefore won't require the author to spell out every reference. I did find that quite annoying. But that's the only negative which is why it got 4 rather than 5 stars. If you're a trek fan then I think you'll enjoy it. I must admit zombies are my least fave horror genre but that didn't put me off at all.
