The fiber is made with a core of polystyrene surrounded by a clear acrylic cladding. Special fluorescent dyes are added to the core. The fluorescent die absorbs photons of a shorter wavelength, and emits them in a longer wavelength (the extra energy shows up as heat). Light which is within the fiber’s capture angle is guided down the fiber to the end for viewing. Popular applications include scientific, targeting sights, modeling, and artistic.

Great deal - Replaces factory fiber inserts
Product arrived as photographed. There are six pieces in a hard plastic shell container. Important to know your front sights diameter as these come in varying diameters. Each strand is about 6” in length. Each application only requires about 1/2”-3/4” easily snipped with nail clippers. It was my first time installing these on a Colt Competition Series 1911. After watch a couple videos on the basic install method, I did mine right the first time and in about 10 minutes. Perfect and exactly what I needed.

Sizes are NOT accurate, product unusuable
I purchased a package of these fiber optics for use as sight replacements. The description says 0.04 inches, which is just a bit over 1mm. The actual product measures 0.89mm, making them useless. Too much trouble to return them, obviously. Just beware that if the actual specs are important to you, the vendor isn't providing what they say they are.

No where near the diameter advertised. Almost threadlike in width. Totally useless for me. Easy refund however.
