Great biographies but the GI Joe/Transformers team up is nothing to write home
Volume 8 contains issues 1 - 4 of The Transformers Universe and 1 - 4 of The GI Joe/Transformer team up. The 4 issue limited series of The Transformers Universe is a detailed biography of all the Transformers characters in the Marvel series (both the regular month series and the 4 issue limited series Headmasters) and Transformers the Movie. Transformers Universe series is great as a reference to look up characters and better understand their powers and personalities. The GI Joe/Transformer team up was short of meh.... Bumblebee was injured only to be rebuild as Goldbug which coincided with the release of the Throttlebots line of transformer toys from Hasbro.Like all other volumes in this series, Transformers classics, it is a paper back which means it can be easily damaged. Although the pages are thick and sturdy, they can be easily bent and folded. There is a total of 8 volumes in this series. Wish IDW would print these in hardcover omnibus format.

Not a comic volume, but worth reading for fans
This book probably isn't what you're expecting.Instead of this being comics, the vast majority of this book is devoted to profiles for the (majority, a few were missed) individual Transformers, both those that made appearances in the comic and many that did not. Following that there actually are comics, the (in?)famous G I Joe/Transformers crossover from the early 20ish of the Transformers comics. The profiles were interesting to read, but definitely not as interesting as actual comics. Quality was very hit-and-miss, some pages had obvious issues where they were scanned from a fading or damaged master copy. The profiles also at times mildly contradicted what was shown in comic and there were a few themes that the writer was just obsessed with and kept repeating over and over. The crossover comics themselves were definitely worth reading. They filled in some gaps from events back in those earlier comic runs, though they also left quite a few lingering questions. Overall it was corny with some ill-thought-out aspects, but... honestly that was kinda the norm for Generation 1 stuff.Honestly despite the massive length of this book, I do feel like IDW should have made it a fair bit cheaper, given the nature of the content.

I love these collections!
This volume mostly contains the Transformers Universe issues. (Which is fine by me!) It also contains the first Transformers/G. I. Joe crossover which I felt was handled poorly but here it is!

The ultimate desk reference for Generation 1 Transformers.
A one-volume collection of the most complete G1 Transformers Universe you can possibly find. This combines the original Marvel Comics 4-issue Transformers Universe with all the miscellaneous files that were peppered throughout later issues of the Transformers comics. It does not contain every single G1 character (because some characters never got a universe file in the original comics), but it's still pretty near complete. Even includes files for the Transformers: The Movie characters.

Still this is a cool addition to the set
This is an ok volume. It provides bios on the characters and has transformers vs GI Joe. The story explains how bumble bee was destroyed and brought back as gold bug. This story was not included in the main transformer story arc. I have not read this in it's entirety however the transformers story ends very early in volume 7. Still this is a cool addition to the set. What the heck, collect them all!

A great package of Transformers profiles galore and hard to find stories.
This book is excellent. It contains the profiles and bios of hundreds of Transformers. It also contains the hard to find first GI Joe/Transformers comics cross over.

A Strong Finish
I own all of these volumes and have loved them all, but as an original 80s kid, it was this one I was looking forward to the most. One of the biggest draws for me back then was reading about the personalities, strengths and weaknesses of each robot. This was, in large part, what set the Transformers apart for me from its contemporaries: the level of detail apparent just took hold of my imagination and fleshed these characters out in ways I found interesting and relatable. Silverbolt was afraid of flying? Trailbreaker was self-conscious about his lack of speed? Hound wanted to explore the Earth because he thought it was interesting? Cool!So to have all of these biographies in one place is a 7-year old's dream come true. It's a fitting end to this fine series of re-issues, and though the G.I. Joe crossover that's included isn't exactly the greatest piece of comics writing ever, the aforementioned makes up for it in leaps and bounds.
