Do Not Order This from Excelcycle
Excelcycle sent me a star nut instead of a crown race; here's the explanation they sent when I disputed:"I'm really sorry about that. Unfortunately the Amazon listing is incorrect and we aren't able to change the product pages once they are created by someone else. We are only able to match load our products to existing descriptions by UPCs. Thanks for the heads up we have since removed our offer from the product page. I went ahead and refunded your money. Don't worry about sending them back and again I'm very sorry for the inconvenience."But their offer is still here.Rather than experiment with the next cheapest vendor, I reordered from ever dependable Niagara.Looks a little different from the Aheadset crown races on my other forks; this arrived in a fancy Cane Creek anti static ziplock silver mylar on the back looking sealed ziplock bag. The last Cane Creek crown race I ordered (for an S series headset) also looked different from what was on the fork. Appears we have no choice but to accept and cope with these changes if we want new. Most importantly, this version is a mm or so taller (S series one was too); presumably headtubes will need to be that much longer. More importantly, putting one of these on a fork that had the old version on it will mean there'll be that much more gap at the top spacer. If your headtube was cut perfectly with the old version, you wouldn't want to replace the old version with the new, but that should never be necessary since these are built to survive apocalypses.Less importantly, the bottom lip is now much thinner, and is rounded, presumably so the jaws of a remover can fit under easily. The whole thing is light and anodized black in a way that suggests its not so tough, but after hammering it onto a fork (not easy despite having used grease until I turned the fork and tool upside down and banged the tool on a concrete floor) I think it's about or as tough as usual. My Nashbar install tool took off a fine line circle of black paint at the top outside circumference; the metal didn't give any where the paint was removed; I expect the areas where the bearings will touch will similarly lose the very fine layer of paint and develop the shiny ring my old ones have.

Works awesome!!
It has been working well on my new for install. It was easy to install, and has been holding up great.

I've read the reviews on Amazon and it sounds similar ...
I've read the reviews on Amazon and it sounds similar to the experience another had where the race is packaged in a Mylar Cane Creek bag. The race is about 1mm taller in height and similarly does not correctly accommodate the plastic / nylon lower seal (height AND width) leaving a gap and a rattling / loose seal which will allow the bearing to contaminate in a heartbeat. So, in short, it doesn't work properly.
