Special Edition Cryptex USB Flash Drive 16 GB, USB 3.0, Cool Grey Edition

This was a total whim purchase for me; I teach a cybersecurity program, and I've been looking for something to hang my classroom key off that would be both appropriate and interesting, and this fit the bill perfectly. I'm thinking of partitioning it and installing Kali Linux on one partition, use the other for class files.SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW:The cryptex has a 5-digit passkey, and you do not get to choose your digits! I've read a few reviews here, and I have reason to believe that everybody gets the exact same five-digit number, so there's a good chance that you can unlock any of these you find in the wild. HOWEVER, if you unscrew the corner posts, and carefully disassemble the cryptex, you can rearrange the numbered dials, which gives you 50+ unique arrangements, even with the repeated digit.AND, it just happened that one of those arrangements is my wife's birthday, which is a terrible idea for security purposes, but means I'm unlikely to forget her birthday again, so bonus!

Bought this as a novelty gift for my husband who, simply put, loves gadgets. And following my example of a growing passion for Steampunk, he loved this gadget's design, which has a rather Steampunk look and feel to it (thank you Mr. Da Vinci) which ultimately made this a very cool Christmas present. The cryptex came nicely packaged and presented well when the box was first opened. It took husband a couple of tries to figure out where to align the numbers, but then after a quick search on You Tube, he was able to get it open. (The tick mark which marks where to align the numbers can be easily overlooked.) The construction feels solid (it's satisfyingly heavy if you know what I mean - it doesn't feel like cheap, light plastic construction).Husband hasn't really used the USB stick yet (he kind of collects them), and isn't particularly concerned about security (he never takes his laptop out in public where theft is a concern) so for the purposes of buying a gadget fiend a cool (and functional gift) this USB flash drive fit the bill.

I was happy that this device was made of metal and really locks the USB flash drive inside. You cannot change the combination, but that's ok--the lock is not supposed to be the main draw here. Neither is the USB flash drive--nothing special here. The main draw here is that this looks like a cryptex and will start conversations about it. Just be sure to look carefully for the notch or you will have a difficult time unlocking the USB flash drive. The word cryptex was first used in the 2003 novel The Da Vinci Code to mean a portable vault used to hide secret messages. As far as I can tell, Leonardo Da Vinci did not invent the cryptex, but it is fun to think so.

A fantastic device. It would be nice if one could store any flash drive of similar size or change the combination in this FANTASTIC device. I use it to store my 'important' documents and databases. But like all drives I want more. Not a problem -- I still love this one.

Was disappointed that the code can't be changed, but it is nice. Won't be able to fit in most sun ports because of the design, but still. Nice to have a physically secure sub drive.

As others have stated, it comes with a sticker showing the preset, unchangeable code. More than that, it’s quite heavy yet still feels very, very cheap. The spinning numbers are very loose and wiggly, and they don’t “lock” or snap in place on each number as you turn the dials. So, when you set a number, it still free spins as you move to the next. Overall, I would not buy this again. It’s very cheaply made for how much it costs.

I wish I could have chosen the code... I am very picky with codes. I don't like to have the same character more than once, nor do I like to have numbers that appear one right after the other. It is still really cool, but the code is not my favorite...

Came in a very nice packaging. Comes a carrying pouch, instructions and the USB of course. The combination located in the box and in a sticker underneath the enclosure. Very sturdy and well made. One flaw is the screws located on the top which can be unscrew, jeopardizing the security feature

ein Speicherstick ist öfters mal eine gute Lösung, wenn man Daten von zuhause mit auf Arbeit nehmen möchte oder für andere Varianten. Es gibt jede Menge Speichersticks auf dem Markt, ich durfte jetzt den 16 GB Cryptex Speicherstick austesten.Lieferung/Produkt/ 1. Eindruck:- Lieferung erfolgte schnell- weiße Verpackung, sie öffnet sich über den oberen Deckel- Set: Stick mit Lederband, Samt-Tasche zum Verstauen des Sticks, Code zum öffnen des Sticks- ist mal etwas anderes, mit dem Zahlenschloss lässt sich Stick öffnen- Farbe: Cool Gray (dunkleres Grau)- Zahlenschloss ist komplett zu sehen, dadurch gäbe es mehrere Versuche um den Code einzugeben, nicht leicht zu Beginn die richtige Zahlenreihe zu finden (mein Mann hat es erst beim 3ten Versuch geschafft)Anwendung:- erstmal sucht man die Zahlenreihe, damit man ihn öffnen kann- Code für das Schloss befindet sich auf der Verpackung und auf einem Aufkleber am unteren Ende des Sticks- verliert man den Code bzw vergisst ihn, gibt es keine Chance ihn zu öffnen, es sei denn man versucht es ihn zu knacken- am Stick hängt noch ein Lederband, dieses fiel mir gleich beim 1. Ich habe mir mal die anderen Angebote angeschaut und muss sagen, dass mir der Preis doch recht hoch erscheint, auch wenn da ein Zahlenschloss mit dabei ist. Aufgrund dieser Punkte wollte ich eigentlich 1 1/2 Sterne abziehen, da dies jedoch nicht geht, habe ich mich für 4 Sterne entschieden. Empfehlen kann ich ihn auch nur bedingt, wenn man mit dem Preis einverstanden ist. Er funktioniert aber ganz gut und auch schnell.Ich habe den Stick kostenlos im Rahmen eines Produkttests erhalten. Vielen Dank dafür. Dies hat meine Meinung in keinster Weise beeinflusst, ich habe das Produkt rein objektiv und sachlich bewertet.

Ich finds nicht so tragisch, dass man keine Kombination wählen kann, so kann wenigstens keiner durch Analysen dahinterkommen ;)Ne aber es ist eine hübsche und nette, wenn auch teure Spielerei und mein Freund hat sich sehr über das Geschenk gefreut
