National Geographic Readers: Slither, Snake!

Love that National Geographic has levels of reading for kids, this one being “Pre-Reader”! Perfect way to judge what is the right book for the kid you’re buying for

I enjoyed it - great illustrations, but the neighbor kids were thrilled ( they have a pet snake).

Loved the pictures

Super easy read for a beginner reader with little support. My 5 year old loves it and loves snakes. I really like how it has little text so my son can get into reading nonfiction books which are his favorite.

Find out about how different snakes in different parts of the world and basic snake characteristics.I really don't like snakes, but I knew this would be short so I took a deep breath and read it as fast as possible because I really do like these National Geographic Kids Pre-readers. They are just right for inquisitive beginning readers with fantastic photographs (or in this case, horrifyingly realistic). The text is simple and fairly easy (some of the snake names are a bit challenging). On the positive side, I live in a part of the world where cobras are semi-frequently sighted...even in places where students frequent at school (like on the soccer field) so it is good for the kids to know what to watch out for and this provides some great photos of what they look like. Most of the other snakes included are also venomous, so kids all over the world can benefit from the safety benefits of reading this. There's a map in the back showing where each snake is from. And of course, there are those kids who just can't get enough of these sinuous slitherers and they will probably read this over and over and over. Once was enough for me but glad this is available for the snake lovers.

LOVE the NatGeo early readers. They are great for engaging in the kid's interest as well as parents who read the same books over and over. This is another good one!

My 4 yo son did not like reading before we bought him this book. He loved the rhymes and learning about snakes. Total winner!

Vivid pictures, simple text and easy to remember story. My three year old loved this and now remembers all the names of the snakes. It’s definitely for the younger ages 2-4. We will be buying other titles in the series as it helped so much with reading and memory!

Good for < 4 yrs kids

Our school library needed a book on snakes that was good for beginning readers. This one fits the bill perfectly.
