Quick and Easy Desserts
When women started to join the work force during WWII, they found that they didn't have have as much time to devote to cooking. Casseroles recipes were the rage. A one dish meal was easy to make ahead of time and to clean up afterwards, but families still wanted desserts. Desserts were typically complicated, difficult to prepareand took a lot of time. It was also hard to buy many of the ingredients because of rationing. People developed fake cake using things that were available like Redi-Whip, Marshmallow Fluff, store bought cookies, and gelatin. These desserts became known as Refridgerator Cakes. These recipes are a testament to all of the women that struggled balancing a job and running a home during wartime. Many people today are facing the same challenges trying to earn a living and make a home. These recipes will enable you to create delicious treats for yourself and for your family and friends. You also will be making memories.

30 Delicious No-Bake Refrigerator Cake Recipes
One of my friends was talking about making cakes that did not require baking; instead they were combined and refrigerated ahead of when you need them. We do some camping and being able to put a pre-made refrigerator cake in our camper would be a great way to take a ready made desert. We are trying a few from Lori Burke's 30 Delicious Refrigerator Cake Recipes and so far our favorite is Raspberry Icebox Cake and Lemon Snap Refrigerator Cake. These are easy and fun to make and each one has been great.

I'm starting to remember refrigerator cakes...
I saw this book a few months ago and thought it looked wonderful. I couldn't take it any longer and had to buy it. So the first recipe I read is about cookies and a whipped filling with whipping cream on top. Huh? I called my 84-year old mother and asked her if she remembered anything about "icebox cakes." She was as mystified as I was. How had we missed these?Reading further, I finally found a recipe I recognized and the memories came flooding back. I even remember the ingredients that used to be part of the staples my mother kept in the pantry; not so much today. Then all I could think about was making one of these wonderful creations - I even have coconut left over from another recipe that I can use up! Can't wait to get started.Highly recommended for dessert lovers - and a bonus, most of these recipes can easily be made low-fat with substitutions.

Hard to Understand
The recipes all look like they'll make decent desserts but after I had bought the book and started reading it, I found that the recipes were hard to follow. Most recipe books, when the recipe is written, the ingredient list is in the order that you use them. These aren't.Also, the directions can be hard to understand, especially if you're a brand new cook. They aren't very descriptive. I believe the author almost seems to assume that you would know what they are trying to get at. An example: one recipe calls for plastic wrap that is placed inside the pan and then the dessert is made in there and frozen. Once made, freeze the dessert and then frost the topping. What about the plastic wrap? I would assume pull the dessert out of the pan and frost the side that had the plastic wrap once the wrap is removed but you don't know because the author doesn't explain.Overall, looks like a decent book with decent recipes but the editing job that was done was very poor and the author did not do a very good job describing the recipe in how it is supposed to be done.

3.5, but no half stars are allowed
Cute Kindle freebie (thanks, author). It's a quickie e-book, not very detailed or anything, but I did see a few cakes I would try. I don't like that there are so many processed ingredients to make these cakes, but I guess if you're looking for a quick sugar fix, these would fit the bill. I do tend to eat healthier than the recipes in this book, but have to remind myself that IT'S CAKE - it's not SUPPOSED to be healthy. :-)That said....I'm gunning for you, Oreo Refrigerator Cake.

Handy recipes for easy cakes
I don't do much baking, but love cakes, and being a lazy cook, I picked up this little collection of fuss free (I hoped - and I wasn't disappointed!) refrigerator recipes. As the name suggested you put the ingredients together, whack it in the fridge and enjoy the yummy cake later. There is a good selection of recipes with varied ingredients, so any one can find their favourites - anything with strawberries or oranges gets my vote... And the instructions are clear and easy to follow.

Wow, Wow and Wow Again!
As someone who has always loved everything cake, this is a doosie! Just to read these recipes and see how these cakes are made, made my mouth water. I can't wait to try one out this weekend! The only problem is choosing which one to make first. You would naturally think that perhaps you shouldn't bother to get this book if you are in any sort of weight loss program, but Lori includes full instructions to cut down on the fat content so that anyone can enjoy these cakes - without getting a guilty conscience! Give yourself a treat with this book.

Like it says on the cover: 'delicious refrigerator cakes'!
I have a book full of recipes from my late grandmother, one of which is a chocolate fridge cake. I can't find it, so looked online to see what was out there by way of fridge cake recipes.I came across Lori Burke's book and am glad I did! I had no idea there were so many sorts of fridge cakes. I didn't find the recipe for my missing one, but I've great fun trying out several others from the book - my family are pleased too.The recipes vary in complexity, and most are pretty quick to make. Well worth getting this book.

30 DELICIOUS RECIPES
I must admit that I wouldn't have downloaded this had it not been free. That's not a reflection on the book, it's, I personally wouldn't use it enough. That said, I've enjoyed it so far and the one cake I've made so far turned out well and was indeed delicious. There are 30 recipes - Banana, Lemon, Orange and Strawberry figure highly and there is also notes for the health conscious. If and when I make more cakes (there are only two of us, so I have to wait until we have guests!) I may add to this review with more details.
