The absolute best option on the market for the money
This just works. Just order it. You can't go wrong for the price. It's obviously very affordable, retains the shells nicely and it's just the right size for 2.75in, 3in and 3.5in shells. You can even use it for mini-shells. You can keep two shells in each slot for a total of ten. The shells slide out nicely but they also retain firmly enough that you're not going to ever worry about it dropping a shell. This is a great option for an HD setup so you have 5 extra shells on hand. 2- 00 buck shells, 2- 1oz slugs and a 3in #4 Turkey shell are my picks for the HD setup.Maybe keep the slugs or whatever your preferred primary shell happens to be in the front two slots with the brass pointed down. You'll find it natural to smoothly grab them there and pop them into your tube mag or chamber. The rest of the shells orient the other way. That way I know by feel instantly the type of shell I'm grabbing. Slug or 00 buck. Also you can easily take the shell out from either direction regardless of brass orientation. The rim on the shell doesn't catch or make it too difficult to push/slide out of the retaining loop. All that matters is that you're comfortable and used to it. Get five of the quality aluminum dummy shells/snap caps so you can safely practice using the holder. Plus it's just nice having them to practice reloading, breaking in a new shotty, ensuring your shotgun is loading and dry cycling shells reliably. These fit factory 870 stocks perfectly. They fit just about everything nicely. It fits various turkish shotguns as well. All of my buddies/family have these for the most part. Great for a deer or duck hunting setup. If you have a sling stud you can just slide it right over it if you don't want to use it or very carefully make a very tiny slit with an exacto knife/razor blade so the stud can poke through. That's what I have done severe times

Holds 5 12 guage shells just fine.
The holder fits my 12 guage double barrel shotgun, just had to slide it over the barrel to the stock. Works like it is suppose to. Great product for the money.

Affordable, simple, durable, and very functional -- fits Mossberg 590A1
The Allen Company Buttstock Shotgun Shell Holder is a great, affordable, easy way to carry spare ammo on your shotgun. The heavy duty elastic sleeve fits snugly on the shortened buttstock of my Mossberg 590A1. Due to the taper of the stock, the forward edge of the sleeve is visibly looser than the rest, but it looks fine and it clings securely to the stock. (I recommend pulling the sleeve on from the muzzle end, instead of stretching it on from the wider buttstock end, to avoid overstretching the material.) For extra security, I removed the screw-on sling attachment from the buttstock before installing the sleeve, then I made a small hole in the sleeve with an awl and reinstalled the sling attachment. This anchors the sleeve in place so it can't slip forward on recoil. (Be sure to lightly sear the hole with a flame so the sleeve material won't fray or unravel.)The loops for the shells are very secure and they hold 2-3/4" or 3" shells (12-gauge) equally well.I bought this sleeve for two reasons: (1) to store spare ammo on my home defense shotgun, and (2) to counterbalance the weight of my 590A1's relatively heavy barrel so the shotgun handles better. For about $5, this product accomplished both goals very well and it looks fairly nice without the need for any cumbersome or expensive modifications to the firearm. I have no idea how long this sleeve would last "in the field," but kept at home in a cabinet, I'm confident it will provide many, many years of service. And I really do like the balance of the shotgun much better after adding this sleeve and five spare shells of 00 buck. It feels much less front-heavy now.I deducted one star only because a tapered sleeve would improve the cosmetic appearance further and allow it to grip the stock more evenly. I realize, however, that stock taper varies from one manufacturer or model to the next, and that Allen Company is striving to offer a one-size-fits-all product. It's a minor issue, and I even debated whether to deduct a star. For price and functionality, this product is hard to beat.

It is a great product.
I received this today, 4 days after I ordered it (Ordered it on Friday, April 9, got it Tuesday, April 12).As soon as I got it (Along with the Allen shotgun shell belt) I slapped it on my shotgun. (Not literally, I just put it on it).It was difficult to put it on my Winchester model 12 12 gauge, as the stock's length was too much for it, although if you put it on the barrel and slide it towards the stock, it works fine. Then I put it on my 20 gauge single shot (New england firearms), it is somewhat loose, though it holds fine.Holds five shotgun shells (12 is easy after you get them in once, 20 fit like a charm, 16 should be fine, though I don't have any to test with). It can hold a 410 shell after you put a 20 gauge shell into it, but for what reason would you have a 410 shell for a 20 gauge, other than custom over-under?The shells slide out easily, though they will not fall out at all.It is pretty high quality, Also provides decent cheek support, and makes loading a lot easier. All in all, this is a great product, I cannot think of a single problem with it.

Good fit
Bought this for my son’s gun and it fits snuggly on it. Don’t have to worry about it coming off or the shells falling out of it.
