The best pre amp/distortion I've ever heard. When I bought this I got a EHX 44mag power amp as I was attempting to go all solid state. I tweaked and tweaked and couldn't get a great sound out of it. When I turned the gain nob all the way off it wasn't much different than all the way up. So I ran the Tight Metal Pro into the return on my Randall Diavlo RD5, same settings I had on the 44 Mag. The greatest noise I've ever heard out of a 5 watt amp. So much gain Dimebag would have been happy. I played around just making noise on that setting and than set to getting the sound I want. After about 20 minutes I had an awesome tone. It sounds a lot like Job For Cowboy from Genesis Era. They used a 5150, which Amptweakers James Brown was behind. The lead boost is as good as I could want. That was always a problem on lunch box amps like I have. The noise gate works great too. I should also mention I'm running a Seymour Duncan 805 overdrive out front and a MXR 10 band in the universal loop. The overdrive really helps. You can get an awesome sound out of the pedal by itself though. It's also comparable to Ampeg vh140, it has that much gain. The 44 mag has stellar reviews for the most part. So I may have just got a bad one. Updated, I plugged this into my tiny Roland Cube straight in because it has no fx loop. Thing sounds amazing, wish I could run it to my v30 cab. I'm going to purchase a Quilter 101 mini head. I will update afterwards. The solid state seems to be the ticket for the tone I want. Old school deathmetal.Update on this one. I emailed the head of Amptweaker James Brown and asked him for some tips on getting a more saturated death metal tone. He replied in under an hour. I will share what he told me. Use it in 9V, turn the secondary gate close to the fat switch down, turn the smooth off and put thrash on. Obviously have gain on high and set to pretty high. I have a EQ in the effects loop with the 2Hz boosted it gives you almost a HM2 chainsaw tone. Any way I still love this pedal. I was looking at getting the Merciless Distortion from Airis Effects. Got my HM2 fix thanks to James Browns awesome customer service. So I have a Savage Drive from Airis ordered instead.

It has a boost with pre and post options. Very well thought out pedal.
I was really concerned with the price point but it is worth every penny. It stays tight and focused even with my seven string. The noise gate is too good to be true!! The 3 fx loops are genius. I love every aspect of this pedal. I highly advise you use the 18v setting though. It has so much headroom. I can say that in my many years of playing this is hands down the best distortion pedal I have ever used.

Worth every penny
So incredibly tweakable. The thrash switch is gold haha. With a voltage doubler to 18v, there is enough headroom to sound and feel real.I think this pedal works so well because it doesn’t pretend to do the volume rolled down, light touch thing. For that bluesy, edge of breakup, stuff, you need a real tube amp with real headroom. However, for a compressed metal crunch, this pedal is extremely convincing; good enough that you don’t *need* a dedicated metal amp. Great!

Great pedal but it lacks two important features
Great pedal with great tones. Sustain forever, three tone knobs and the ability to articulate even at high gain is amazing. It can be noisy and with two internal Gates but no foot switch to turn at least one of them off was disappointing. The tight setting drops the bottom end dramatically. The reason I returned it and got the Jr. is the lack of a gate foot switch and the universal loop only works when it's on. I wanted a loop when it was on or off which would have saved me 40' of cable to/from my amp. For me, the Jr. is enough.

Excellent design, great sound
This is a great sounding pedal. It's in the vein of a Boss MT-2, but sounds more like an actual amp (less "bees") and is much more tweakable. I'm astonished at all of the features it includes. The effects loops open up so many possibilities without having to bring in an external looper device.

Extremely well made and HEAVY (in sound and weight!). Nice buy.
Very nice and well made. Solid and sounds incredible. Not quite the rectifierish low end punch of a MXR Fullbore Metal but does everything else beautifully. Did I mention the quality of construction on this thing? Beautiful to look at too.

Cool pedal. Great distortion sounds, and very versatile. Works perfectly. It was well packaged and arrived in a timely manner, I'm glad I bought it.
