Classic
The cover art is a little goofy but the album itself is a classic.

Brutal slab of Death Metal
From Beyond is a vicious piece of death metal released perhaps a bit too late. But that doesn't matter, because this is one hell of an album. If you like early Death, Master, Possessed and so forth and haven't checked this out already, click the "add to cart" button now!

Album is a 5/5! Re-release is a 2/5.
I've owned this classic on cassette since it was released, along with the EP. Was really looking forward to getting the re-release on CD, since I never picked it up. To be clear, the album is a 5/5! It's a death metal hall of fame classic. That's well established.2/5 rating reflects the awful, cheap job Earache Records has done re-releasing this. Until I knew what I was getting, I thought the price was good for FDR with the EP bundled. What we get, a one page Digipak with a blurb about going to the URL for the lyrics, etc. The sound... I guess it sounds good. The album always sounded great to me, even on cassette. I really am not sure there would be a noticeable difference between this and the original CD. I doubt Earache would put the effort into it. Gimmick. So, what seems like a great deal, is actually a slap in the face to fans of physical media. The originals can be found, for not much more, if one searches. The price is absolutely awful for what we get, even with the digital download, which is free, anyway. I wouldn't have paid more than 8 bucks for this, knowing what I know now. In fact, don't think I would have bought it.It's been well known for years Earache doesn't give a crap about their classic catalog or bands, while at the same time milking the cow, like we see here. What upsets me more... I bought the FDR of the first three Entombed CDs. They're still on the way. I already own the originals. I sure hope they're not like this. Waste of money, if so. Especially if no discernable sound difference.Skip this... Go to eBay for the original CDs.

A death metal standard for sure...
and it stands up a hell of a lot better than most of the "brutal" nonsense that passes itself off for death metal nowadays, but honestly, the fact that this is done with a bunch of ex-Death members is more interesting than the actual album. I'm also a riff-nazi (as in I notice whether I've heard a riff somewhere else before) and the first riff on this album is a knockoff of Hell Awaits. That is NOT a good sign. There's also the fact that the closing song "Corpse Grinder" is essentially Bathory's "The Return of Darkness & Evil." I also feel the album has a bit too much of that Pantera groove (even though this did come out before Vulgar Display if I'm not mistaken) that kind of takes the fangs out of this music.Regardless, this is a solid record, and when it works, it kills! If you are bored with the same old Morbid Angels, Deicides, Deaths etc., this is a good release for the sake of switching it up without sacrificing with death metal is supposed to be about.Standouts: Cryptic Remains, Succubus, Biohazard

"SOLID BUT NOT CLASSIC NOR MIND BLOWING"
Massacre is made up of 4 ex-Death members, After listening this album several times I noticed is how simplistic it all is. The drums are fairly basic, the vocals are standard deathly growls, and the bass is lost in the mix somewhereDespite how simple they are, the riffs are powerful and make me want to mosh like mad. Just about every song has at least one awesome riff and while Kam's gruff vocals are nothing special, they suit this album perfectly. The one major downside on From Beyond is the leads which are quite frankly disgraceful!

If there was Leprosy part two, it would be this one
Old school death metal, one of the best with the ex members of Death. It can be considered as Leprosy part two, if Death would remain on their old school sound. From start to finish, album full of blast hits, addictive killer songs, instruments sound well, brutal vocals, full of headbanging, never get tired from it, can play it in loops, sound that any old school fan will love. The art cover is amazing too, fits the album perfectly.Top tracks: ‘Corpsegrinder’, ‘Succubus’, ‘Biohazard’, ‘Dawn of Eternity’ and ‘Chamber of Ages’.Whoever like death metal, should own this record on his collection.

great album, poor digipak CD release
Massacre's debut album is a reference within the genre which definitely stood the proof of time and now, over 30 years after its release, we realize it's definitely a death metal classic. I skipped many opportunities to buy the CD and, when I finally did it, the only available edition was the Earache's FDR remastered digipak CD. Soundwise, pretty good, at least with my reasonable hi-fi setup. The 1 star is not about the album itself, but about the crappy FDR remastered digipak edition. It just couldn't feel more cheap than this, a simple 4 panel CD digipak with a plastic tray for the CD. No booklet which I am pretty sure it was not at all the case 30 years ago. Apparently this is now the standard with many other current reissues on CD from Earache. Basically we're getting less for more.

Mal hecho
