Big Fan of Lori's Books!
I am really a big fan of Lori's books. She always comes up with the most creative ideas and the recipes are always super simple to make. Well, she did not disappoint with this book 30 Delicious Poke Cake Recipes .As with her other books about dump cakes and refrigerator cakes, I had no idea what poke cakes were before I read this book. Lori does a great job explaining what they are straight away and the weird name immediately makes sense.Another great thing about this book is that even before she gets into the meat of the book which are the recipes, she has a section for the health conscious which includes many different substitutions to lower the calorie count of the recipes. This is a nice added touch that you don't find in many dessert style cookbooks. Now, to the real reason I love Lori's recipe books, I have already tried one of the cakes and it was delicious. I made the strawberry cheesecake poke cake with my daughter and she absolutely loved it.As I mentioned before, the recipes are easy enough that you can have your children help out with the pouring and the mixing. Next we are going to make either the strawberry banana or lemon blueberry poke cake. All in all this book is a great recipe book for anyone that loves desserts. Highly recommended!

Lori Burke Does It Again!
I've bought several of Lori Burke's cookbooks, so I was thrilled to find that she's published another one. I was intrigued by the concept of poke cakes in which you bake a cake, poke holes in the top of it and drizzle Jell-o gelatin into the holes. Knowing the book was written by Lori Burke made it a "must buy." She continues to outdo herself with each new cookbook.Being a chocolate lover, there are plenty of recipes I know I'll find irresistible, such as the Chocolate Chocolate , Chocolate Fudge, Hot Fudge Caramel, and Chocolate Pudding poke cakes. If you like variety, there are plenty of other recipes to choose from. Lori provides pokes cake recipes for blueberry, Boston cream, butterscotch, orange, and peach, just to name a few.I also like that she includes reduced-calorie options for her recipes. If you like to bake desserts, this is a cookbook with delicious and fun-to-make recipes by someone who knows desserts. I recommend you give it a try.

Unique Dessert Book!
I absolutely love Lori Burke's books and I think this one may be my favorite! I have to say I had never heard of Poke Cakes before, but now they will become part of our family's traditions!Lori provides fabulous recipes, such as the Banana Cream Poke Cake and the Black Cherry Poke Cake. The recipes are well written and the directions are clear. She provides tips that really make each recipe easy to understand. Then she also provides ways to make these cakes quick and easy or if you prefer, using a homemade recipe for the cake batter instead of a store bought mix. I love this because some days I really do need quick and easy and some days when I don't, I like the option to make my cake mix by hand. She also provides ideas for variations, so I can make a Poke cake unique to me and my family. These recipes are extremely child-friendly which is important to me as a grandma. And perhaps best of all, making and eating these cakes are a lot of fun. This is an excellent recipe book and I am thrilled to have it in my collection.

Mmmmm and Easy!!
I'll admit - I didn't know what a "Poke Cake" was until I found this cookbook and curiosity got the best of me. :)I'm so glad it did! These recipes look fabulous and honestly, I ran out to buy ingredients for the Blueberry Poke Cake right away. My husband is a HUGE blueberry fan, and this is his new favorite cake. These recipes are simple, and Lori gives multiple options for the base cake recipe. You can buy a box mix, use the "from scratch" recipe she provides in the book, or use your own. I appreciate this since I tend to bake from scratch whenever I can - it just seems healthier. Our son is older now, but these recipes would be fun to create with kids. Best of all - they'll be a hit with the whole family.Delicious, easy and fun - it doesn't get better than that.

Lori Never Fails to Put Up Great Book
I am always pleasantly surprised when Lori publishes a new book. These recipes are to die for. YUM YUM YUM.I do believe my favorite is the Hot fudge Carmel. My husband if a huge fan of Heath Bars and he thought he had gone to heaven. I had my grandson that loves to cook with me and we made the Chocolate Pudding Poke Cake. They couldn't eat it fast enough.Next one I get to choose. I'm going to make the Peach Poke Cake so I can make one of the many delicious spreads to put on the cake.I lean toward using a box cake, but I really like that she puts recipes to make from scratch. This is a very unique, fun cookbook. It is a must buy. You will love it and you family will love you.

This Is A Wonderful Book, I Just Love It!
For anybody who has not heard of Poke cakes you've been missing a lot. They are so simple to make, and the taste is out of this world. In this well-written cookbook, one of her 30 Delicious Recipes series, Lori Burke shows us how to make these cakes easily, quickly, and simply. Not only does she include recipes for all the cakes, she also breaks them down so that you can make the whole cake yourself, with your own ingredients, or use a packaged cake mix. The same goes for the fillings, where you can use a mix of factory produced items, like Jell-o, or you can make your own.Overall this is a very good, helpful, little book and I strongly recommend it to you.

Interesting ideas - provided you are in the US
The idea of poking holes into the top of sponge-type cakes, and then pouring over something tasty to soak into it, is interesting. The recipes rely on pre-packaged ingredients that aren't known in the UK.For a free download, it seemed worth a try. I had a go at inventing my own, using the yellow cake recipe from the book and pouring over banana blended with icing sugar and butter and took it into work. I thought it horribly sweet, but the feedback was almost wholly positive, so perhaps I'll try another version.
