69 original recordings out of the 75 on this three CD set
A nice collection with the flaws listed in the headline. The remakes first. Some odd issues. The Santo & Johnny "Sleepwalk is not the original, but their second hit "Teardrop" included here is! Since both were recorded for Canadian-American Records rights can't have been an issue. Sometimes when this happens on European sourced collections(Great Britain in this case) I think the person who assembles it is just too young to recognize the original from among choices they are presented with. FWIW, unlike the rest of the remakes here the "Sleepwalk" remake is actually a complete re-arranging of it by the Farina Brothers and of musical interest if you want to add something unique to your collection. The other five("Walk, Don't Run", "Patricia", "The Happy Organ", "Raunchy" and "Sail Along Silvery Moon") are typical I'm-bored-with-playing-this-song remakes and pretty much worthless. And the remakes on the last two are clearly both Billy Vaughn remakes of his two-sided release from '57, and not even a Bill Justis remake of Bill Justis on "Raunchy"! The "Patricia" is also odd a la Santo & Johnny because Prado's original "Cherry Pin & Apple Blossom White" is here, and both were on RCA in the 1950s.Anyway, enough of the bad. Gems include a rare inclusion of Eddie Heywood's third hit record, "The Land of Dreams" with Hugo Winterhalter from '54. Many collections include his two '56 gems, "Soft Summer Breeze" and "Canadian Sunset"(the latter another Winterhalter collaboration), but this one is a worthy treat. Topsy Part I by Cozy Cole here along with the hit side Topsy Part II collected a lot. Interesting because Part I is very similar to the Benny Goodman 1944 original, then you can see where Cozy's originality took it in Part II. Overall a delightful collection of things orchestral or rock 'n roll.

Excellent Instrumental CDs
I play music in the background as I "Call" Bingo in the Clubhouse of our Senior Living Community. EVERYONE loved these selections - 3 CDs, all terrific. (Some vocals which are OK - 95% instrumental music!) Highly recommend this 3-CD Summer Place.

Too many remakes
There are a few rare recordings that I do not own, such as as Bill Doggett's "Slow Walk" and Roger Williams "La Mer." However, as with some of the more recent entries in the Essential Gold series, at least 8 of the recordings are remakes, including a perfectly awful recording of "Patricia". Essential Gold, you can do better than that.

A great collection of fantastic music
A great collection of fantastic music. Younger generations need to at least be introduced to music they may never have heard before. Many seem to believe music was invented just before they were born and only the newest is worth listening to. It isn't

Five Stars
This cd has a lot of great classic instrumentals from yesteryears.

Nice collection
Some of the tracks were not hits or minor ones by well known artists but it is still great if you want to hear instrumental music from the 60's
