Not the bargain you think they are
Older versions of this chisel appear to have been made in England, and from pictures said so on the chisels themselves. I ordered these recently from Amazon (I think fulfilled by Rockler) and the chisels that arrived just said Footprint on them...did not mention being MADE in England anywhere on the packaging or the chisels. The packaging did say "Sheffield Series" (in quotes), but nowhere did it say where they were made. They also arrived greasy and the company name stamped on the chisels is crooked on one of them, and on the back side on another. Fit and finish is terrible, handles aren't just plastic but they are cheap plastic. The chisels do get pretty sharp...but they don't hold an edge at all. The edges are very soft and wear after a few uses before needing resharpening.I only paid thirty dollars for them, so I don't care that much...but with the recent price increase I feel I have to warn potential buyers. Don't know if there are better chisels in this price range, but these aren't the bargain you think they are. 2 stars because they were so cheap...would definitely be lower if they cost more.

Great price and quality
I got these used as a gift. The previous owner abused them terribly and I spent several hours over several days reshaping the blades. I also got the Ashley Illes chisel set from Tools for Working Wood around the same time. I'm not sure if its a fair compairison, but the refinements of the Ashley Illes doesn seem to be much better overall. The Footprints are nice. I wish I had gotten them. They hold an edge well, and for how I use them, they are great. The price is good. My only complaint is the poly handle. The handles are uncomfortable and stick in my hand. I would go with the wood handles for just a little more. I suppose if mine were the wood handles, they might not have handles right now because of the abuse. The previous owner got glue and paint all over them and he used a course stone on a grinder to sharpen them. Once cleaned up, they are great. I'm looking for a set to give as a gift. Coming from a $10 set of Popular Mechanics chisels that can't keep an edge, the Footprints are awesome.

great set of chisels for a newbie
these were my first set of chisels and i could not be happier. I search several forums and chose these based on price and reviews. I did spend time making them "scary sharp" and making sure the backs were flat. It did not take too long and like most thing in my meager shop was mostly therapeutic.
