What's not to like ?
I decided to go for this to replace my original Echo Show (7") which sits in the bedroom.I was slightly worried it might not fit on the table as it is a little cluttered but it took up the same amount of room as the original Show so I was very happy. After I bought the Show 5 without a stand I very quickly realised that I really needed the stand, so I wasn't going to make the same mistake with this one and bought to two things together. The stand raises the Show 8 up a little bit but you can also tilt it upwards or if you wish downwards, trust me if you don't get the stand. like me you will quickly realise you should get one.The stand attaches very easily via a magnet that is on the top of the stand to the base of the Show, so it is literally fitted in 2 seconds. The screen is excellent quality and nice and bright, and also like the Echo Show 5 has a privacy shutter over the camera lens which you operate via a switch on the top of the Show.. there is also a 'mute' and '+' and '-' volume buttons on there too.The speakers are nice and clear and nearly as loud as the standard Echo, a vast improvement over my original Echo Show (7").It was very easy to set up (you will need your Wi-Fi password of course) and is just the same procedure as my Echo Show (7") and Echo Show 5 use.. so no surprises there. It is certainly a lot neater than the Echo Show (7") and that 1" difference in screen size does make it a lot better, I think it is an IDEAL size now, and for ME the Echo Show 10 is way too big (I can use my Amazon Fire HD 10 in "Show Mode" IF I needed the bigger screen anyway) and the Echo Show 8 is just right !The good thing there is now a perfect size out there for everyone, and every house should have at least ONE of the Echo Show models.

Use it everyday
I do love this Alexa show and I use it everyday for watching Netflix etc while cooking in the kitchen. She does struggle to recognise my voice a lot more than my echo and echo dots (I'm scottish), but we persevere. Some of her skills requite specific lines to activate as well which can be a pain - for example if you ask to watch Netflix instead of open *insert show name* on Netflix she tries to connect to TVs and such and cannae let it go either until you tell her to stop. Another annoying one is if you've been watching something and then ask for a news update she'll refuse to do it because "that video skill is not available yet".So, few annoying caveats but overall it is a good wee piece of tech. I do wish it had a Sky Go app available on it though... currently it has YouTube, Netflix and of course Amazon Prime but annoyingly no search option for Amazon Prime... so you have to know what you want to watch, you can't just search for stuff. It integrated well with the rest of our Alexa gear but it does seem to struggle more than the others. Hopefully some of these issues will be addressed in future updates or versions.Would still recommend anyone to buy it who uses an alexa often.

I love my Echo Show!
My device is in the kitchen then and so far all I've really used it for is to view recipes and listen to music. The sound quality is amazing - others may disagree but up until now I just had Dots and the sound on the Echo Show is so superior to these.I fully realise that I am currently under utilising my device as it can do so much more than i have used it for so far. However, I am still exploring and have some other devices that I think will connect so will come back and up date my review when I have done more.

Its Alexa with an unnecessary screen
I have one of these in my lounge. Unfortunately I also have a Fire TV cube now making this is largely unnecessary.I am not convinced by the addition of a screen in the Alexa device. I suppose it is handy for checking your Ring doorbell camera, but since I have had it, it has rarely been used since I installed it.Don’t get me wring I love the voice assistant functionality, I have Alexa in every room and can control my lights and heating using it. When I have an internet problem (which has happened a few times), I really realise how much I now rely on it.Where it falls down for me is the addition of a camera and screen, which I find largely unnecessary. I was going to use it to speak to my elderly parents, but ended up installing a Facebook portal device and can use WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger with that, so the Echo Show never gets a chance to shine.I had thought I could use it to watch Netflix in the kitchen (where I don’t have a TV), but the screen functionality doesn’t seem to allow that.Although it is nice to see the weather forecast on the screen I didn’t really need it with Alexa telling me what it was going to be like.If you don’t have fire TV but you have a ring doorbell then it may be a handy addition, but otherwise I would stick to the Echo Dot, as I don’t think the camera and screen are as much of a benefit as I thought they would have been.
