Facts
Our 8 year old grandson decided he liked looking at animal documentaries so we bought him this book. The book covers everything and is very descriptive even for an eight year old.The proof is in the fact that he is reading it cover to cover and asking more questions. I suggest this is one of our best buys for the price and as it is with him all the time far better than using the internet.

Brought as a present is informative and illustrative genius
I had to rate this product 5 out of 5 my nephew who is 7 adores this book. He has learned so many facts it puts adults to shame. I would highly recommend this book to people with small children.

Absolutely wonderful for various ages, activties, and more
Absolutely wonderful book for the entire family. Many high quality images accompanied by short text blurbs (there are some longer passages, but mostly, the book consists of short points that can be read here and there, so it is easy to jump in and out a topic). The book is organized by animal family (cats, bears, etc.) and include facts that can be educational and entertaining for preschool age children and adults alike:- How to tell African elephants from Indian?- What is the difference in functionality of African/Asian vs. South American monkeys?- Where are all the internal organs located inside a snake?- For each animal, some cultural references are provided (e.g., the story about the emergence of "Teddy bear", elephants in Indian culture, etc.)The variety of animals is great - from big cats to butterflies, from penguins to spiders, from dolphins to lizards...I had a very positive experience going over parts of the book with younger children (4-5) or having older children read segments from it prior to a visit in the zoo. Then, during the zoo visit the parents and children can point out some of the features discussed in the book (e.g., "what type of elephant is it, what signs did you look for?"). It was also great to go over the book after the visit of the zoo and look for answers for specific questions that came up during the visit (how heavy is the elephant? which bear is the biggest?).It is also a fun book just to flip through on the weekend, or as inspiration for a home-made trivia game for any age group ("Which ape's brain is closest in size to human's?", "are sharks fish or mammals like whales?" for younger kids, and "can wolfs and coyote interbreed?", "Which bear evolved first - the panda or the polar bear?", for older ones). It can also prompt a family google-search for videos inspired by the book information (after reading about the elasticity of the snake's stomach exemplified by a nice picture of a snake that just swallowed an egg, maybe you can find a video of it happening in action).Even in the age of internet when any information is google-able it is wonderful to have in the room a something so educational and fun that you can pull from the shelf and enjoy. I cannot imagine my child spontaneously say "hay, I want to google 'where do bears hibernate?' " but I would definitely see my children and other kids grab the book from the shelf and become engrossed in these questions: where DO they hibernate? The only two negative things I can possible say about the book are pretty minor:1) Underplaying the human's negative actions and their implications for animals. Things such as illegal hunting and influence on animal migration are mentioned in passing, typically avoiding evaluative statements.2) Although the variety of animals is impressive, we missed rhinoceros and giraffes. But this is really a minor complaint.

Great book, just some printing issues
There were some pages that were double printed on. Disappointed about that but we ordered it for our 7 year old to practice reading so it's not worth returning.
