Delightful survey of an artist's career
Excellent book and quality of artistic images. It is also interesting to see earlier styles of Rothko's art that I was completely unaware of. Overall, the art is quite beautiful.

Not an Art book...Cheap!
I decided to purchase this book based on excellent reviews, however, I was very disappointed upon my examination of the book. If you are seeking a high quality large reprints of Rothko's monochrome paintings on high quality paper look elsewhere. This is not an art book. It is not a large book, the paper quality is very cheap (semi-glossy) and prints are very dull. Perhaps over 70% of prints are of Rothko's early works which are not typical of Rothko's style. There are also too many interior shots of the galleries with Rothko's paintings. It also has too much text with mediocre essays. Very disappointed and that is perhaps why this overpriced book is offered at 40% discount.

beautiful
a rookie here when it comes to art books, but i wanted to celebrate something in my life and i chose adding this book to my small collection of art books at home. having watched the play, RED, last year, i was taken by the story of rothko and also by his art and wanted to learn more. (i also bought the book of the play, which is wonderful.) there are numerous essays in the book that shed light on the full spectrum of rothko's life and art. one of the reasons i chose this book on rothko instead of others on rothko is that i liked the size of the pages and the quality of the paper. the artwork is treated with respect on each page such that i am able to spend time absorbing the art.
