... this brush for two years now and it's been great from day one
I've been using this brush for two years now and it's been great from day one. It's super soft on the face, splays nicely, with just enough stiffness to load off of a hard puck as long as you wet the bristles first...It has yet to lose a single 'bristle'.I first bought the Beauty Strokes H.I.S Shaving Brush which was pretty similar in style but MUCH bigger. If I was shaving my entire head rather than just my face the H.I.S. brush would work great. For just my face the smaller brush holds plenty of lather for 3 passes.I originally purchased a synthetic bristle because the old farmhouse I live in has serious mildew problems - cobblestone basements that flood every spring will do that - so I wanted a brush that dries quickly. This brush lathers nicely, but dries with a flick of the wrist and a wipe on a towel.I would say that I would buy this brush again, but it will probably outlast me.

Works Great, Doesn't Stink, No One Died
This replaces a 5-year-old, $60 Art of Shaving badger brush that started losing bristles fast enough to be really annoying. I did enjoy the "cloud of lather" feeling that covered half my face at a time with the badger brush, but the loose bristles interfered with shaving and required constant rinsing of the razor. The new brush is definitely different. It feels much softer on my skin, but is also stiffer when whipping up the lather and applying it to my face. I know it sounds like a contradiction, but that's how it feels. It covers a smaller area at a time, but allows more precise control of the lather. It is now rare that I get lather in my eyes.Break-in only took a couple of days, and I didn't miss the stench of wet badger fur. I also feel better that no animal died to make my brush. All in all, I am quite happy with this brush.

Great travel brush
Okay this brush is decent. I give it 4 stars because it's a great value. The knot is the same v2 fibre that Muhle uses. I have the Muhle XL 25mm knot v2 silvertip fibre and while the little Frank brush can't compete with the big Muhle, it does a great job with creams and croaps. This brush stays in my dopp bag and travels around with me. It dries quickly and has pretty good backbone. If you're a new wet shaver or looking for a synthetic knot to try, I think this brush could work for you.

Excellent Brush -- great value
I've been through lots of shaving brushes, and the Frank Shaving synthetics are my favorites. The best evidence I can offer is that I bought one previously, and liked it so well that I bought a second. In this price range, I've tried a badger brush (Tweezerman), a horse hair brush (Vie-Long) and several boar bristle brushes (Omegas). The badger was soft, but too floppy. The horse hair brush was very prickly and not that great at making lather. The boars were the best (until I found the Frank synthetics), but they clearly come in second place behind the synthetics. The Frank Shaving synthetics are great at building lather, with soap or cream. They have very soft tips, but have enough backbone so they're easy to control and a pleasure to use. They rinse out easily, dry quickly, and at this price point, I think they're a tremendous value.

Too Soft!
Considering the price this is a fine brush- decent backbone, quality construction and the synthetic design probably lends a durability which will enable this brush to last for many, many years..Extremely dense and soft 'velvety' feel- much like the softest 'high mountain' badger hair.No break-in required. Will probably not ever change characteristics given its synthetic heart. The cons for me- Too soft! I like a little "scritch" or a more "rugrous" - somewhat abrasive feel to let you know it is there - some label this as "exfoliation" for us face lather's. Truth is we care less about "exfoliation" and more about that great tactile sensation!Admittedly there is a limited range of balance for this softness/abrasion zone for many of us. The Frank Shaving Pur-tech just needs a little tweaking to become Pur-fect!The second and perhaps the worst con is water retention- it holds a lot of water until it touches your face and then uncontrolled dripping begins. Again, we all know each brush has it's "zone" of retention that does the least amount of dripping while giving us the maximum lather. This one just has less holding ability than others, particularly natural badger, perhaps even less than most boar- and probably the worst I have come across: a good shake or two is sufficient for most other brushes but not this one- a couple of squeeze/shakes is in order here. .Heat retention- so so as well- good for about one pass before settling towards room temperature. Seems the nylon is not a good insulator, but not bad either- again, not nearly as good as badger. So, if you want a velvety smooth feel, decent lather and a brush that will last a long, long time at a good price, get the Pur-tech.If you are vegan by philosophy then this is an excellent choice as well.If you are looking for water and heat retention, more backbone, a little more abrasion (with the occasional shedding hairs and some break-in required) that won't break the bank, stick with a decent super-badger (the type with the pure white/treated tips).Still, this brush is overall equal to if not superior to other brushes in it's price range, natural or synthetic and deserves serious consideration at this price point.

Purpose of a brush
Having just got into traditional wet shaving (i.e. brush and DE razor EJDE89BL) I have to say first of all what a great experience shaving has become. I first purchased the Van Der Hagen brush, bowl, soap from Wal-Mart for $8.60. and really enjoyed the shave.Doing some research online, I of course found the Badger hair silver tip to be considered the Roll-Royce of brushes, however, What is the ultimate purpose? It's to build a rich creamy lather right, or am I missing something? Will a silver tip create a lather quicker? Maybe, but is 15-20 seconds in doing so worth an extra $50.00 to $150.00 more? Not to me.This brush does the job it's supposed to do and feels wonderful on the face.I would not only recommend this brush to a friend, I give it 5 stars for you.
