Quality Safe
Perfect for securing to nightstand. Ease of entry with mechanical opening vs. potential issues with electronic safes. Sturdy and strong construction. Must have for gun storage especially with children.

Best pistol safe I could find, and made in the USA
After months of research and even purchasing Stealth Swiftvault 2.0 (directly from Dean Safe, which I returned) I have finally found a safe that I trust and recommend. Here is what makes it so great:1. Sturdy, well built safe. 22 pounds of heavy duty steel as opposed to other gun safes of this size that typically weigh a 5 to 10 pounds.2. Easy to install securely above surfaces, below surfaces and on the floor. Very low profile, yet plenty of space for two guns and more.3. Quick and reliable SIMPLEX mechanical push-button lock with plenty of combinations. No problematic fingerprint lock, no need for batteries that may die, no hack-able mechanical keys (see you-tube videos)4. Sliding tray allows for easy access to all stored items. Safe opens quietly (no beeping, no noisy pop-up door). You can leave the safe unlocked and just slightly open when needed.5. Made in the USA. V-Line is California company (based in Simi Valley).6. Excellent customer service. I must point out the amazing pre and post sale customer service that was provided by Michelle at V-Line.7. There is no gun safe of this size that is even level 1 UL listed (5 minutes to break in). With about 1082 possible combinations it will most likely take much longer to break in by trying combinations. There are no other hack-able methods, except for breaking the mechanical lock. There is an additional safety bracket from V-Line (available for free upon request), which enhances resistance to this vulnerability. One issue of concern (inherent to all SIMPLEX mechanical locks):If you have a motivated family member such a teenager with plenty of time to go though all 1082 combinations they can gain access to this safe. We do not have kids at home, so no such concern here. You can add an outside lock to block such access, or put the safe in a locked cabinet. This will protect you against a family member, who will not break the cabinet, while the safe will protect against burglarers, who will not have the time to figure out the code.

Basic, functional, works as claimed
I bought this to have a very basic but flexible California DOJ compliant safe. This one was on the CA DOJ approved list. I must stress that the Simplex locking mechanism of this safe is fully mechanical; that was important to us: 1) Biometric locks have significant failure rates, both in failing to open when needed and failing to resist opening by the wrong touch. 2) Batteries fail. 3) Nobody wants to have to hunt for a key in an emergency situation. 4) Key fobs / panic buttons rely on batteries and are vulnerable to the wrong person getting access to your fob/button and accessing your safe against your will or without your knowledge. The Simplex lock is not the most secure combination lock possible, but it avoids the listed problems and is cool with CA DOJ.The single drawer of this safe is large enough that my 10.5" S&W fits comfortably inside with room to spare. The slides operate smoothly and reliably and are quite adequate, but it feels like a little care should be used when the drawer is open to not torque them much. Resetting the factory combination was a little challenging because the key moving parts were pretty resistant - and I didn't want to break the thing right out of the box. But a few tries and rechecking the directions got the job done. Got that? Read the directions! :-) I haven't mounted the thing yet because it is not yet in its permanent location, but the factory mounting plate looks exactly as advertised, so I'm sure that will be fine. Having practiced accessing the safe at numerous random times in both light and dark, I can say that the push buttons work reliably to open the safe. The drawer does not "snap" to being re-locked just by pushing the drawer shut - hold it shut with one hand and twist the knob with the other to re-engage the lock. Works fine.
