Quareia The Initiate

Just got this 700+ page behemoth and at only 40 pages in, I can tell this is the real deal. No fluff, great explanations/examples along with exercises for each lesson. After years of trying to cobble together information from various sources, this is what I have been looking for.

Josephine McCarthy is a gifted magician who writes for the 21st century. The Quareia training program is an intense modern successor to the traditional Western mystery school. She only writes what she knows and has personally experienced. I recommend everything she's written, especially this volume.

Excellent book - must have for the occult practitioner.Amazon's packing of the book resulted in it's damage - loose in its box just slamming around arriving with torn and crumpled pages.Author is exceptional, Amazon abysmal.

I just got this. I can’t wait to start this journey. This book is huge! It looks so very worth every penny. Optimistically I’m going to buy the others in the set in case they ever stop printing them. It looks thorough and deep.

I got this in soft cover read the sample on kindle and liked what I read. Continued a few more chapters on the website (whole book is free on there) and agree with most things something’s I don’t. This book is the VERY VERY basics. So it’s a bit behind me but I’m still reading it through because she has some good insights and differences that I like. This book is HUGE! I have bought sooo many books in the years and spent well over the cost of this book accumulating bits here and there from every book. Definitely recommend.My only dislike is the book came bent. But I suppose I will bend it myself anyways while reading

Huge volume absolutely packed with info. Available for free online, but I find the hard copy much easier to work with. Best book on the subject I've come across.

Amazing material. Anything from this author is golden. Get it while it’s still available in hardcover.

This book is a monumental work regarding magical training, and thoroughly researched (through practical and personal experience by the author). I knew of and very much respected Josephine McCarthy's work. Hence buying this first volume of the Quareia magical lessons.The no nonsense and down to earth tone of the book appeals to my sensibilities. It presents ancient wisdom in a realistic light, breaking up topics into manageable sections and chapters. The student of the arcane arts is made very much aware that the training of a magician takes hard graft over many years. I knew that already, so not a shock. The student undertaking this first stage of the Quareia training has to be self reliant, disciplined and focussed. A hard task but builds the character. Dedication is a big part of the training as well.There's not much to dislike about the book, unless you're a casual dabbler and want quick fixes/success. Even if you're not interested in becoming a magical practitioner this book is of interest in research terms. It's great value considering the quality of the work.

An excellent book, a manual for beginning a serious study and practice of magic, which has within it a clear, informative guide and primer across meditation techniques, ancient history, theology, classical mythology, divination, tarot, astrology and natural history as it is applied in herbal lore and working with the land. Josephine McCarthy brings a clarity of thought and a lifetime's experience to teach and guide students: she has worked practically in every skill and test that she shares with the reader and the depth of her knowledge emerges on every page of this massive volume. Down to earth and focused, Josephine has a no-nonsense style that will reassure and support the reader from the start. The student is drawn in immediately with clearly explained practical exercises and well-researched lessons that provide valuable context and a sound theoretical basis for study and practice. Quareia is a course that's about practice, not only reading: without the actions the student will not progress. We know that however difficult the lesson, Josephine has been there before us and she is not requiring us to do anything that she has not done herself! An incredible amount of research and work has gone into this book, and yet the presentation is clear and accessible. A complete and detailed approach to the learning and practice of magic for the beginner. In 45 years in the field I have yet to come across a better work. There's no unnecessary jargon or obfuscation (something enjoyed by some schools of magic who believe only the elite should have access to the mysteries), and the approach is 'non-denominational' in that it does not subscribe to any particular school of thought or tradition, thus making it suitable for anyone on the Path.

You can read this either as an information collector or as aspiring practitioner with a little determination . I am part way through the course as a doer . Having read many books and learnt v little on the how , it is gratitude to Josephine for sharing and giving a robust path . If you do the practices it works . What more do you want ?
