The Fire Service Leadership Handbook you need!
Every person who is a company officer or looking to promote to the position of company officer should read this book!Over 10 chapters and 140 pages, Jarrod Sergi lays out practical steps toward becoming the company officer and leader that your firehouse crew deserves. With moral integrity, setting standards, and being consistent in holding people to those standards, we as firefighters can improve our firehouses, our organizations, and the fire service as a whole. Sergi provides a practical approach to doing so.This is the perfect primer for people looking to become leaders in their organizations. I would honestly say that the strategies he shares could cross over into the private sector as well. The template he provides could even be applied to our families, within the walls of our homes.Thank you for your contribution, Captain Sergi!

A Must Have!!!
If you are looking to become an officer in your volunteer and/or career department this is a must have, because Capt Sergi gives you "common sense" on being a company officer in the firehouse. He gives you tips on being the new company officer whether you're the Engine/Ladder/Squad Co officer. He goes in depth on when you show up for your first shift as the company officer, he says to just sit back an observe the dynamics of the crew/firehouse. He also talks about the impact he had on one of his fellow shipmates before he separated from the Navy, to the point Capt Sergi had the honor to pin his fellow shipmate's anchor when he made "Chief". He talks about how to priorities things in a "high", "medium", & "low"; as to what defines them as a High, Medium, &/or Low priority.

Wish I had this when I started as an officer
Great read. I was recommended this book by a fellow officer and friend who I’m teaching leadership with on our department. Sergi captures a lot of what we’ve been trying to teach on team building and developing your people. Also, his chapter on the hard discussions is something I really wish I’d seen before I started to have those discussions as an officer. We will be quoting and referencing this book in our future classes.

Good leadership book.
This was a well written book by a man who has done it in both the fire service and the navy. Highly recommend.

A great tool for the leadership toolbox
Captain Sergi broke it down in a style that was easy to translate into any firehouse setting. Large career, combinations or volunteer departments, we all have formal and informal leaders in those organizations. As a leader there were many topics that were sinple and good takeaway’s that can be applied. I highly recommend this book for all levels of fire service and just those already in company officer roles.

Great book
Even if you aren't an officer or acting officer, even if you are just a fireman with a few years on, there are some good take aways on how to step up and be a leader. It'll also shine a spot light on the officers who fall short of true leadership. It is well worth the price to check it out!

Awesome book.
Jarrod hits the nail on the head with this book. Realistic and practical is a great way to describe it. I purchased a bunch of them to hand out at our Officers Academy and to our new recruits.Dennis DoanBoise City Fire Chief
