Crewel Birds: Jacobean embroidery takes flight

I love all this author's books and this one is no exception. The birds are beautifully embroidered and I particularly liked the pheasant. Don't be put off by the title as they can just as easily be any embroiderey stitch and done in any thread of your choice. I wasn't sure at first as I am not a fan of Crewel embroidery but this book is well worth it. My only slight complaint is nearly half the book is on the different stitches which means there are actually only 6 projects but Hazel's beautiful work is always worth looking at. Not a beginner's book but definitely something to aspire too.

Crewelwork birds using an old craft brought up to date with beautiful designs with background embroidery. This book is very good for anyone that's into crewel work, but also for those who want the try a new craft.

........packed well. Gorgeous book but was unexpectedly surprised to see that the patterns have to be resized. Difficult to get done during lockdown. I do wish these 'how-to' books would print the exact correct size of designs. Can't be that difficult to do, surely? I won't be buying anymore in the future unless they don't have to be resized.

Clear instructions on a variety of crewel embroidery stitches and delightful patterns to follow. I would prefer to have patterns actual size to trace rather than try to enlarge them.

Lovely book full of instructions, inspiration and charachter! It arrived really quickly and I am very pleased with the level of service ! An all round pleasant experience!

These are gorgeous books, very well illustrated and plenty of explanation for those who are not used to crewel work.

I am going to stitch the cockerel design.
