Stair Tread Gauge and Shelf Layout Tool

This is a well constructed, very nice stair tread template tool. The item is made out of about a 3/8 inch plywood, that has been well finished, and uses quality t-bolts with nice fasteners. I am very pleased with the quality and easy of use.

This thing will cost around 15% of your materials budget (raisers & treads only) which is roughly the cost of two raisers and two treads. It's a great tool and very very useful if installing wood stairs however it is overpriced. Would be a much better price point around $75, max. If you are a DIYer that has a little time before starting a stair project then consider making one and saving some cash. I have a kitchen remodel underway and decided to add replacing carpeted stairs into the kitchen to the list so this was a last minute purchase otherwise I would leave have built my own and saved 85 or so dollars. I do have it for two more sets of carpeted stairs that need to be converted to wood though, so it will come in handy once again.

This worked great for the treads. However I had to make new end pieces for the risers due to some trim work, but that really isn't the fault of this product. The knobs are the right size, the workmanship is good and it worked on my 48 1/2" wide stairs, too bad the treads won't grow another inch so I can cut them to fit. I have 30 stairs to do in my house and the savings from not having a bad cut makes this product worth every penny.

This tool is well made and does what it is supposed to do. I used it to measure and cut 13 hardwood stair treads and 15 hardwood risers. I saved over a thousand dollars doing the stairs myself. I was quoted $3000.00 turnkey price plus another $550.00 to remove the 2x12 boards that were under the carpet and replace with plywood. I was told the surface had to be perfectly flat for the new treads. I purchased all materials and tools for 1400.00. Well worth a $100.00 investment in a measuring tool and $150.00 for a miter saw. I removed the 2x12s and put down two 3/4 layers of Advantech that was left over from the new subfloor. Worked great. Buying the right tools for the job and watching You Tube videos on how to do stuff correctly can save you money. Watch more than one video, some of those guys making videos are not professionals. Keep searching until you find a real pro showing how to do it correctly. The pros use a template to measure the treads.

Wow, what a great tool. I read all of the reviews and the price is crazy high but, it makes your life so much better then measuring ever step. I really thought that all my steps were the same size, but they were all different. I just hope the guys who invented this gets the crazy amount that they're charging. I feel this should sell for about $40.00. I would buy it again because it was a huge time saver that they are taking advantage of the consumer. Anyway, 5 stars because good quality and I'll say it again, big time saver.

I’m glad I bought this stair gauge tool! Love the quality and easy to use! Combined this tool with a new high tooth saw blade - perfect cuts and fits for my stair risers and treads! Excited to start another project on my drywall built in shelves!!!

Easy to use no assembly, works well for DIY’er probably not idea for carpenters. I used it for 12 steps works great.

I am a professional flooring installer. I wish i had this stair gauge years ago. I highly recommend it. From looking at it online, I new it would save me some time at work but I underestimated how much. Also my cuts have never been so perfect. Worth every penny.
