FTCE Social Science 6-12 Secrets Study Guide: FTCE Subject Test Review for the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations

Its okay BUT........
I bought this book to help review for the FTCE 6-12 Social Science exam. This book has a wealth of information but don't expect to pass just using this book. Some of the questions on the exam came from the information in the book but over half of the questions were based on information I had been learning in my college classes. This book is good to use as a review but you must have a background in history, economics, geography, anthropology etc.... OR have read quite a bit about these areas. This book does a good job of collecting information and presenting it but what it fails to do is cover all the necessary parts. For instance, the section on economics is good but it only gives you the basis for information but doesn't delve into examples of the concepts learned. That becomes a problem on the test since several questions asked about specific examples. Another issue I had with the book was the frequent grammar and spelling errors. Additionally, the book has videos that go along with certain sections which gives additional information but don't expect to learn a lot from them if you are anything other than an auditory learner. The videos consist of a person filling in the blanks on a white board. The videos also have quite a few spelling errors and at times the people presenting them get tripped up. They do add extra information that did help on my test, so if you can overlook the errors it does help. Overall the book is okay. It helped but do not use it as your only source of information. You'd be better off reading this and the textbooks that you will use for students or the ones in your college classes.

Save your money and download the practice tests online.
This book gives you sample questions, and it's a good idea to go through them to sharpen your testing skills, but they are much harder than the actual questions, so don't worry if you don't do well. Also, the videos are ridiculous. They are all on Youtube, so you don't really have to buy the book to see them, plus they are nothing more than a person standing in front of a whiteboard and reading notes. Waste of time. This is a lot of money for something you can basically get for free by googling FTCE Social Science.

The content is not sufficient or targeted properly.
If you are learning new info from this book, your going to fail miserably and waste more money. The level of knowledge is not sufficient. Save your $. Just google the content outline, use the pie chart to estimate out how many Q's per section. If I didn't do the above mentione, I would have failed. As always with these exams, expected the unexpected.

Two thumbs up
Purchased for an exam, may end up using it as an extra resource for test taking tips for my future students. If you're looking to get an extra edge on the exam, I suggest Mometrix.

Best study guide!
I have used this series in the past and passed on my first try! I just ordered another book, can’t wait to be certified in another area!

Save your money and buy a history book published by Pearson
Save your money. I studied this book cover to cover and then again only to be sideswiped at the actual test. Waste of time, and money. Questions do not resemble the real test. Many errors in the text and videos are very amature. This text maybe helped answer 3 of 120 questions correctly. Focus on in-depth knowledge of World History specifically Northern Africa, South American and Asian regions. Know your economics inside-out from a liberal perspective also.

Passed the test the first time! Used it together ...
Passed the test the first time! Used it together with Cirrus study guide. However the test includes Florida History and the book does not include any information on that.
