Joy Division was one of those bands that inspired so many great artists. Ian Curtis with his haunting lyrics and iconic voice, backed by Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris will always be an important part of my collection.

I bought this for the hard to find peel sessions , which are superb . Exercise one is archetype.... funny how Martin Hannets “genius” productions fail miserably with digital mastering .... they need to add bottom end and cut the high mids.. what else is new !?Why it starts of with digital is mystifying , not one if their great songs at All... overall if u were like me in the 80s and had every album in duplicate posters etc this is a good collection .... the mastering is decent

If it's your first time listening to Joy Division, don't buy this. Get Substance instead (it has all their early release, ep recordings, everything they put out AS Joy Division after they changed their name from Warsaw, and before their two full-length albums) and too many of the same songs in this "best of" are repeats from that more extensive, thorough album/collection. That being said, everything on the first disc is available elsewhere, so DO NOT buy this in a single disc format. The second disc has the rare recordings you cant find anywhere else (only a few tracks made it on the multi-disc box set, the rest are here). If you already have Substance and Unknown Pleasures and Closer (or the box set) you dont really need this cd..but since I'm compulsive and needed to own EVERYTHING Joy Division ever recorded, this cd was essential.

Cd arrived in perfect condition. Great sound.

The sound quality for this CD is really crisp. I also loved the John Peel sessions and interview ad ons. Would highly recommend for fans of joy division who want the best hits and some extras of the band.

Even though I didn't know it at the time, I grew up with New Wave groups like Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark,The Cure, and the Thompson Twins among others. I came to Joy Division via New Order, via Orgy. Blue Monday is my favorite Orgy song, andonly within the last 5 years found out it was a cover of New Order. In turn, I found out earlier this year that New Order is the successor band ofJoy Division.I listened to four of New Order's (Substance Volumes 1 and 2) and Joy Division's (Substance and this album) Greatest Hits. While all 3 of theSubstance albums are dark and moody, The Best Of actually has an energy that makes me want to dance.
