Bought two after seeing this on a YouTube clip. Got them very quickly. After reading other reviews, I was very careful activating it. Not really all that dangerous. If you point it at yourself or someone else, it could leave a bruise or possibly even knock out a tooth, but, with normal caution, it is no more dangerous than a bee bee gun. And appropriate for similar ages. I found it to be a blast to play with.There are no instructions with it and they are needed. To activate it, hold it tightly with your thumb on the round tip. Make sure it is not pointed at yourself or another or anything breakable. Pull the pin back and out 90 degrees. Release your thumb and look badass.To recollapse it, put the tip on the ground and push down on the base while turning the shaft in different areas to loosen it. As the shaft compresses, continue pushing and turning until the pin comes out the base. Re-engage the pin to secure it closed, then turn the pin and keep pushing until it is back the way it was in the beginning. It took me about three minutes to do this.All in all, this is a fun toy to startle your friends with or to play Kung fu master. Enjoy.

The wand is neither sturdy enough for actual real martial arts use by adults nor safe enough for pla bu children. The opening mechanism is outright dangerous in terms of speed and force with which it opens and could easily take out an eye.. Then the real problems start - trying to close the wand up again. Between us we purchased 5 and watched videos of how to close it. We broke 3 trying after the wands proved bendy. The one of us who gave up and took off his gloves (recommended) to better struggle sustained a very nasty cut. Huge family-wide disappointment and complete and utter waste of money.

i wish i could give it a 0 stars but whatever here we go.here is how the train of events went down.i get the package, super excited at this pointopen said package, still excited.get the staff out, wowow super excited and nervous.i open the darn thing, wowowow it shoots out! super excited!try to close so i can re open it again, confusionthere doesnt seem to be a way to get it back in...i try to compress it, but i see that if i press hard enough, it starts to bind up.so i try to twist a lil and press in, doenst work either.at this point, confusion.so i decide, maybe i outta compress this hard to get it back in.i go outside and went to the payment and tried to get it in, nope same dealit just binded up, feeling pretty bummed out.so i decide to try to unwind the pole sightly to compress it, boom it unravled and its done.all and all i had the staff for like 6 mins before it was done for.Would i buy this again? nodo i suggest others buy this? YES!misery loves company after all....

I bought this and it is blatant false advertising. It is wrapped in the color you choose and not all one color. The picture is after opening it the first time and it broke. Trying to get a refund now, but they want it shipped back and I can't because it came in a tiny envelope, and it will not collapse back down. Save your money by burning it instead, it is better than this product. If you are going to buy one, get it from someone else, if just for the fact it won't break in your hand after opening it once.

Should've paid more attention to the description. I expected this to be an actual self-defense weapon. IT IS NOT. I DEFINITELY would not allow this around children or pets. It is VERY FLIMSY and with the hard ends (the "buttons" that 'secure' and 'release' it)... it is just way too dangerous. I clicked one 'button' and it turned out to be the wrong end (I ended up punching myself in the chest with the WRONG END; luckily I wasn't badly hurt, but my chest was sore for 3 days). This product should never have been allowed on the market. WOULD GIVE THIS A ZERO RATING, BUT AMAZON WONT ALLOW THAT

I wish I could give zero stars for the first time. This was delivered and 5 minutes after opening it sliced my son’s hand open. It is thin metal that is not stable. You can hurt yourself if you grab it, or in my son’s case while it is opening his hand was near it as it extended. And he was using it AS DIRECTED!!!! This doesn’t need an age restriction, it needs to be removed from Amazon.When I called Amazon to report the issue and ask for a refund, they offered a refund and $10 credit IF I returned it. When I pointed out that it was not safe they said they could then only offer a $5 credit. I’m glad they feel so strongly for the safety of their customers AND the employee who would open this item upon return to have it pop out and cut the too.I am SORELY disappointed in Amazon.

Threw it out right away, it was horrible, almost cut my when I opened it, and when I was closing it, i had to use ALLL my force and I’m pretty strong too, ended up telling my mom to dispose of it because it could harm the user

Absolutely horrible doesn’t work it won’t close back up once it is out don’t waste your money

Bought two. 1 broke and unraveled while unpacking from the box. The 2nd one does not recoil. Edges are also very sharp so be careful when handling.

Not really worth the money.. Cool to pop out but getting it back is another story. Can easily cut yourself and badly. Buyer beware.

It’s fun but not very strong.
