This thing is a Gem!
6AM, 1/29/23I have a long driveway (about 10 car lengths, concrete), a large parking area in front of the garage, and a bluestone and brick patio entrance area to the front door. I live near Milwaukee. I liked the original SnowJoe, but the electric cord was becoming a nuisance. The battery version, though a few inches narrower (18"), seemed like a cost effective solution. It handles 1" snow very easily, was particularly good on the patio where a shovel snags on bricks, and I could do the whole job on one battery charge. But wasn't being challenged... until..... Last night we had 8-10" of powder snow. Up at 5:30 AM I fired up the battery Snow Joe. It careened down the long driveway and quickly plowed away the 8" layer like a hot knife through butter. I was impressed. It was clearly using a lot of energy, so I expected I would have to recharge. At the end of the driveway, the plows had piled about 1.5 - 2 feet but Joe had no trouble munching through it all, taking smaller bites. I probably used most of the battery energy here. I didn't want to run the batteries to zero (experience with Ryobi products I learned this is not a good idea because the battery has its own logic circuitry and if this is not powered the battery goes totally dead and it becomes very difficult if not impossible to reactivate it, using various tricks found on google forums ) On one battery charge Snow Joe did the whole long driveway, and part of the parking area (I may go over it again since a small half inch snow layer remains). Now recharging and should be easy to finish in an hour. I am impressed by the sheer bulk of snow removed and the convenience!!! With the cord I couldn't reach the last few feet of the driveway where the snow plow piles are, would spend half the time moving the cord around, and I would be cussing like a sailor. If these sorts of large snow storms were more frequent I would buy some more batteries, but nothing wrong with a long coffee break. I will complete this report when I'm done with the job.8:40 AMCharging takes a about an hour and fifteen minutesI couldn't quite finish the job on the second charge. Enoughto make driveway passable, and the patio, but not quite elegantly finished.Rather than waiting another hour-fifteen of charging I cranked up my old Joe with the plug-in cable to finish the job. NEVER AGAIN... You spend 2/3 of the time, dragging the cable around and replugging it in. The cable is heavy (14 amps) and it gets stiff in the cold weather. It has imited length of 100', too short for my driveway (I had bought an extension but didn't bother with it). Cable is a real nuisance. Also, I didnt notice any better performance out of the cable Joe.. The battery one performed just fine and seemed to deliver more power than the cable version ... (remember, power = energy/time; maybe there'sa lot of resistance in the 14 amp 100' cable that reduces power. ..from experience I knowthat a 12 amp cable doesnt work at all with the old snow Joe.)Far better to wait an hour for a recharge and only use battery Joe.Old Snow Joe and Cable are going to the J-yard.Overall I remain quite impressed with the battery 18" Show Joe. It cuts through 8" of powder snowquickly and efficiently. It can bite away at the multiple piles that the city snow plows leave at theend of the driveway. It does leave about a quarter to half inch of snow that can be removed on a second pass, butnever completely. The energy storage of the batteries is a bit shy for my wants, but I am patient andcan wait out the 1:15 hour recharge time, or buy additional batteries.I give this little 18" battery powered Snow Joe 5 stars.Addendum: After all this, I have noticed a rasping noise coming from the battery Joe. Hopefully I didn'tdo fatal damage. It did munch some ice at the end of the driveway and that is a stress point. Will not be happy if the one big snow fall requires I have to purchase a new machine. We'll see.

Super maneuverable, just a couple reservations
I really love my switch to battery/electric with this machine, but there are a couple caveats people need to understand if they are going to make this switch.First, the pros:- It is light and maneuverable. Even though it isn't self propelled I've had no problem plowing through snow as deep as 8" with this beast. Think of it almost as a powered snow shovel.- It is pretty powerful. While it doesn't throw snow as far as my prior machine, which was gas powered, it does the job nicely.- The batteries swap out very easily.- The led lights on the front light up the area nicely. Now, the caveats. I don't want to call them cons as they are not deal-breakers for me:- Battery life is limited. The set of batteries that come with the blower will last about 20 minutes under normal loads. Get an extra set of batteries (I got the more powerful 5A set) to swap out to ensure you have enough available power to do the job. The reviews on the batteries say they need a different charger. This is not accurate when dealing with this snowblower - I ordered a 2nd charger based on the reviews and then returned it as it was redundant.- Starting the machine is a little bit of a contortion as the starter button is placed awkwardly on the side of the right grip. Not a big deal, but still a nagging inconvenience.- Wet snow will clog in the shoot. They give you a mini shovel to clear clogs, but I would recommend the snow joe spray to help keep the chute clear.- The machine pretty much tops out at 8" - it will bog down if you try to plow through deeper snow. But it is so light that you can attack the deep snow in layers.- Don't bother with the weather cover, it blows off with any wind. If you intend to store it out of the elements, this doesn't apply to you, but those people that plan to keep it outdoors, the cover is basically useless. Tightening the cord around the opening doesn't matter, the cover blows off the machine with even the lightest breeze.I have no regrets with this purchase whatsoever, but I felt that it was important to highlight the challenges for people that might find them more objectionable. If you are getting constant snowfall (1-2' per hour), the machine is more than up for clearing the snow hourly on a single charge and having the backup batteries mean that you never have to wait for the charging to complete before heading back out. As light as this unit is, you can move through the snow as fast as you want and the machine will just clear it out in front of you. If you let the snow pile up before heading outdoors to clear it, keep the 8" target in mind (a little less if the snow is wet & heavy). The included batteries will last about 20 minutes and the 5A batteries will last about 30 minutes.

Light and very effective
I read all reviews so thoroughly and made the right choice. I needed a snowblower that was light and easy to use but still did the job and this is it. I have a huge length of sidewalk to do. We hardly got snow this year and I was almost disappointed I only got to use this twice. What a time (and back) saver! Charge held fine with some left over. Light enough to pick up easily with one hand but heavy duty enough to turn a one hour shovelling job into less than 20 minutes. Love it!!

Could be a bit more powerful but otherwise it's a great product and good investment.
This snow blower will be a major relief for your back and arms, and is a must-have. It may not be as powerful as some of the more expensive snow blowers but a little bit of pushing is all that's needed to take care of any snow removal job.For a standard driveway, this snow blower is great. It will handle a foot of snow no problem, even if it's snow from the day before. It comes with two batteries that when fully charged will have enough juice to handle a typical two-car driveway. The one scenario where this snow blower will struggle is when you have to clear the snow pile (those created by plow trucks) at the end of your driveway, which would usually comprise of compacted snow and chunks of ice. Some manual work would be required to soften things up a bit beforehand. The batteries will be fairly drained but still enough to clear most of your driveway. No complaints though, as it's still tremendously better 100% manual shoveling.Other notes:- assembly was really easy- it's very light (you can pick it up with one hand), but surprisingly powerful for its weight- the throw distance is quite good to start and progressively gets shorter, but not to the point that it would be a hindrance

Saved my backside!
I bought this because I nearly did my back in after a winter storm in late January when my husband and son were away. I did a lot of research and this model seemed to have the best bang for the buck. I’ve only used it once, but it made short work of my decent size city driveway. I am a 5 foot 3 1/2 inch female and so size and weight was important to me. This machine is quite lightweight and easy to maneuver. The fact that it has wheels is very helpful, imagine a very lightweight lawnmower - that is what it is like to manoeuvre. The battery lasted for about 25 minutes, which was enough to do the job of the main part of the driveway and sidewalk. I pushed it through about 1 foot of snow and it had no problem. What is nice is you’re able to direct where the snow is blowing to reduce the amount of work created from blowing more snow in your path. I like the fact that it is cordless too - I do have an outlet at the front of my house, however, I can imagine it would be inconvenient to be constantly moving it out of the way. The freedom of the battery model is not having to dodge an extension cord. You have to make sure you clean it off afterwards and then store it somewhere dry - there is a cover for it but if you store it in your shed or garage, you don’t really need to use that. I would not recommend storing it outside, nor does the manufacturer so, if you’re buying this, make sure you have somewhere to store it in an area of around 2 ft.². Also, you need to keep your batteries indoors at room, temperature, not too hot and not too cold. There are comprehensive instructions that were quite easy to follow, and it was a cinch to set up, given that it was mostly already assembled. All in all, I was a little nervous to use it because I’ve never used a snowblower before. However, I have enjoyed my first use of it, and even my neighbour commented on the great job that it did. I am no longer intimidated by the idea of using a snowblower and I imagine after a few times I’ll really get the hang of it.My husband has always been adamant that he prefers to shovel, and that we do not need a snowblower for the size of our property, however, I have a feeling that he might change his mind after using this.Absolutely, no regrets here, so far! 🙏🏻

Defective and awful customer service
This unit is indeed lightweight and we were super excited to use it. We unboxed it and ran it for a moment just to make sure it works. When the first snowfall finally came here, the unit ran for a few minutes and then stopped. The batteries have a full charge and it just simply refuses to turn on. The batteries also have a slight burning smell when charging that just isn't normal.Sent an email to support, no reply for a week. Finally called and waited on the phone for 40 minutes to get through and be told I need to destroy the unit, and send proof of it before they can send a lesser unit as a loan until the original one is in stock. I'm then expected to destroy the loaner and send picture proof before they send me the original unit when they have it available. I asked to confirm what she means and she said literally take a hammer to it, smash it, cut the cable for the battery charger, and return the batteries to a recycling center with proof and then they will process the exchange. Weird and wasteful in my opinion. I asked for this all in writing via email (I'm not DESTROYING something unless I have it in writing) and haven't heard back yet for several days. Feels like winter will be over before this is sorted.Awful customer service for a unit that's dead on arrival. We didn't get snow until after new years this year when we usually have some in November, so it took me past the Amazon return date to find out it's defective. Feels bad friends. Great to read that some people are happy with this unit. My opinion is you should buy something else because if there are issues, you're not a priority at all for this company. We will be looking into getting a higher end stage two Ego unit as this was a waste of time and money. Buy once, cry once. We'll probably just ask for the replacement of the unit when we finally hear back from them and look to gift it to family if it actually works.

This will save you a backache but won't replace shovelling entirely
First snow of the season and finally for to use it. It's okay, seriously light. Rides over snow. Its great for clearing the heavy dump of snow (sacing a ton of shovelling). That said, itdoesnt clean down to the ground. The unit is so light the rear wheels had come off and I was pushing it on snow! All in all, I'm going to use it to clear the top inches of snow. Then I shovel to clear the last layer of snow.Worth it for the money I guess. But I can see why the expensive blowers cost as much as they do.
