Has it’s limitations, but good product.
Making a dart board cabinet for my son’s birthday. Wanted some way to sign my name and sentiment on the back. Thought about a wood burning tool but then ran across this pen. Thought I’d give it a try. The test wood is shown. Lower half below yellow line was done on unfinished surface. The surface above the line has one coat of water based polyurethane, and the heart was done on top of 2 coats of the poly. You can see there is some bleeding, no matter how close or far, or what angle I came at it with the heat source (650 degree embossing heat gun). The tip of the pen is beveled; the very tip makes a cleaner line than flat beveled surface. It will make due for this project, but for a more serious artist or more detailed project you may want to invest in a wood burning tool. Also, to get the liquid ink to the tip of the pen, you must pump the pen tip on a flat surface or paper towel so the ink will flow to the tip and saturate the tip. Be careful not to squish and ruin the tip during this process. Have fun!Additional note: writing did fine with light sanding, but tried to put another clear top coat of water-based poly on it and it turned slightly yellow. Good thing it was on the test piece!

Does not burn wood
I was very excited to try this, I thought there was a chemical reaction between marking pen and heater which caused a burn. That is not what happensIt does NOT burn the wood. It is simple to use. Similar to using a sharpie with a stencil. These markers show up on wood in a light orange color, add heat, and light orange turns into dark brown. It is only a color change. It is not burning into wood.I actually washed it off the wood by scrubbing it in the sink. If it was burned on, I would not be able to wash it off. With that said. It is a great tool and easy and fun to use. As long as you realize it’s like using a sharpie and a stencil. We also found that the marker bleeds and the color runs if not set with the heater immediately after drawing

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY
Don’t waste your money. This thing is more like a yellow marker that will turn black with a heat gun. I did a couple of test symbols. The marker bled and after I heated it up, I gave it a few minutes and could smear the color. I could do a better job with a sharpie.

Safe, Quick & Easy to use
I love rustic crafts and love crafting with my grandchildren. I came across this Pyrography pen and immediately ordered it. It was great. It primed easily. The grandchildren created their designs on the various wood objects and I then applied heat using both a hair dryer and a heat gun (both worked). The bonus was the delight on the kids faces as their designs came to life. Although you cannot obtain the same level of intricate details with this pen, I would highly recommend and will be purchasing again.

Gives burnt appearance to wood, but wipes off.
Well, this is just ink that reacts to heat and makes it look like it’s burnt. After making my project, (created my design and used my heat tool) I wanted to see if it would wipe off with damp cloth, and it did. So this doesn’t burn the wood, just gives it an appearance of it. And this bleeds, almost impossible to get a clean design. If you’re thinking of getting any kind of scorch marker, just go for the real wood burning tool. You might as well just use paint or permanent marker if you go for this.

Not what I thought it would be.
After trying to write as thinly as possible and then hitting the hot air gun on it, it looked liked a med point permanent marker not a wood burning tip. Very disappointed. I tried several times and on different pieces of wood. I will not ever buy this type of gimmick again.

Glorified stain pen
Glorified stain pen- no burning or scorcher takes place! It goes on like a highlighter and after hearing it looks like stain. Very disappointing. I will stick with my wood burning tools for authentic wood burning result. Don’t wast your money, unless you’re looking to stain something.

Junk
This didn't work correctly. The pen "ink" came out in globs and spread all over wood. There were no clean lines to be used.
