Creative Haven American Landscapes Color by Number Coloring Book (Adult Coloring Books: USA)

I just LOVE this book - another winner by Creative Haven! I, myself, really enjoy the Color by Number books - you can choose your own colors or use the ones they list. As others said, you cannot always find the colors they chose in a small to medium-sized box of colored pencils or colored pens or markers, because this book uses some beautiful, subtle shades of greys and purples and oranges and greens and some very light pastels such as very pale grey, ivory, and yellow. You can find these colors in the larger-sized boxes of colored pencils, 48 to 72 pencils, but also you can use colored pens and markers if you switch some of the colors. If you make a sunset sky that will reflect in the clouds and lakes, you can get beautiful pictures using pens and markers, replacing sunset colors for the pastel skies this book uses. I find the color by number books much more fun and relaxing for me - I am not so good at choosing colors, and I can just relax and color, without agonizing over what color to use! To me, this book is just GREAT!

Requests/suggestions:(1) include overlay sheets with color scheme variations (e.g., different times of day/evening/night)(2) make cover with an extended flap for a bookmark/color palette—it’s hard to have to commit to memory each of the nuanced colors, so I cut out the color palette from the front inside cover to review while I work... unfortunately, the color palette bookmark got lost so now I’m back to guessing.(3) use Photographs or descriptions of the scene e.g., Yosemite, fall, twilight, as comparison. Some of these colors are inspired but not realistic. I would like to see the inspiration for the unusually high presence of peach skies and pastel mountains illustrated.(4) higher frequency of number labels--many have large and/or intricate designs but only one number for entire section, which isn't easily distinguished.

This color chart has few uncommon colors which makes it difficult to find a match. Although I have tons of color pencils in variety of brands, I was unable to find a color pencil which matches closely to the uncommon colors on the chart. However, I was able to find a match by blending two colors together. This American Landscape color by number book will be a challenge for those who have limited color pencils available.

This is nice when you want to check your brain at the door and don't even want to choose colors, you just want to zone out and scribble. I love that the color key is printed on the inside front cover, so you can match any brand of pencil. You can also choose to deviate from those colors as long as you are consistent. With landscapes there is a lot of leeway, I feel with the colors so you could choose any type of pencil brand.

This book is a little different from the standard adult coloring book. Each picture is lined with numbers assigned. IMHO the color chart is a guide and does not have to be matched exactly. The point of adult coloring is to do what you want. I can create a palette that I am happy with. The pages are perforated so I can remove a page if I wish. I deducted a star because the paper is smooth and there is not much of a tooth to capture the pencil pigment. One should test a page to ensure it can handle gel pens and markers without bleed through. I love the natural colors of the desert and the woods. This will be a nice book to complete.

Bought for my mother who has dementia. The color by number may help keep her mind clear for a little while longer. She picked this book. It is detailed and at first I was concerned she could not handle it, but I numbered her pencils for and she has enjoyed it.

I like to color landscapes that look as real as seeing them in person. When I saw the thumbnails, they look abstract in color selections used. I will choose some of my own colors for realism. Also, title is American Landscapes and I expected a good variety of regions. The majority are southwestern and western landscapes. This was disappointing.

These are nice pictures but I don't like the color choices. I have a hard time matching the colors, and I have 72 to choose from. Plus, the colors on the color chart aren't named. A little disappointed in this book. The rest of the Color Haven books I have are not like this.

The pictures are fine except for the fact that the numbers show through the colors. Need to use ink that can be erase.

Das Buch zeigt 45 sehr schöne Landschaften zum Ausmalen nach Zahlen - einfache und schwierigere Motive.Allerdings sind dafür 24 Buntstifte ausschließlich in Naturfarben (Grün-, Braun-, Creme- und Grautöne) erforderlich. Ich habe drei Buntstiftsets und bestimmt an die 100 Stifte, aber diese Farbpalette hätte ich damit nicht bedienen können. Ging deshalb leider zurück.

The colors are kind of boring and its really difficult to get the colors to match properly. I'm using prismacolor pencils and still cant find the right colors. I wouldn't buy this again.
