Good quality build, works as advertised, recommended
Very, very good, so far (3 weeks). Somewhat 'heavier duty' than electric can openers and other manual can openers of similar size. I am not sure what makes it work a little better. I am guessing that it is because materials (stainless steel), weight, and handle length are all better than usual. I really don't know how they work and what makes for improved effectiveness. This model has proved easy to keep clean - hand wash and put in dish rack to drain. Don't yet know if or when it will lose effectiveness. It gets relatively heavy use - at least 2 cans of dog food per day, often more dog and canned people foods every day. I have had good electric and manual openers last about a year under these conditions and then fail - can't cut into the top of the can or can't rotate once it starts. The question for me is whether to repair or replace. This costs almost as much as good electric can openers. For now, I am choosing to stick with a manual can opener and this is the "replacement" strategy.

Not as advertised
There are two things a stainless steel can opener should be able to do without fail: open cans and not rust easily. Unfortunately, this particular unit:1) Is unable to open cans for a wide variety of standard brands and products. The reason? It simply won't engage the edge of the can properly. If I were to guess, I'd say that the blade and gear are not aligned properly. Now, the no-name can opener that this one was supposed to replace can open pretty much any can without a problem, so $16 for a can opener that can't open half the cans I want to open is... well, a bit much.2) Rusts easily. Really easily. It might be ergonomic, and it might be pretty, but it sure as heck isn't a "Long lasting heavy duty manual can opener" and doesn't "Cut smooth edges every time."

Ok, can opener
After reading about the can opener I thought finally a decent hand can opener! Upon buying and trying this can opener I was disappointed to find it was comparable to many others I have purchased. Yes, it does open cans, but turning the opener was as difficult as all the others I have tried. I was also disappointed to see rivots holding all the pieces together. I am assuming that over time, like all the rest, the connections will loosen up with no means of retightening them. I guess I was hoping for something better given the price and the hype.

Mid Century modern looking can opener
This is a pretty straight forward can opener. It is nice and modern looking with the steel look. The actual can opener parts takes a little playing with. I find that it works better to first put it at an angle and then clamp down and then turn it up straight. Doing so make it easy to use the crank to open it up. Otherwise I find that it is not clamping down as easily. My only complain is that it does not start opening immediately if I don't angle the opener. However I will probably get used to it!

Makes it so easy!
I'm glad I ordered this can opener, after looking at several different brands. I like that the cutting blade is offset, and easy to place. The large turn handle is easy for me to grip. The opener is stainless and I can put it in the dishwasher, unlike others. It's a great buy!Update: April 2017 After about a year of use, the cutting blade dulled considerably. I had decided rather than always place it in the dishwasher, to hand wash and dry after most uses,so I don't think that had any effect on the blade losing it's sharp edge.I had to stop using it about 6 + months ago. It would not cut at all. I ended up digging through my gadget drawer and finding my old(my mom's!) hand opener and using that, it's blade still sharp after many years!Very disappointed. The offset handles are great, but useless if the blade isn't sharp enough to cut the can top!

Clean, simple and well made
Received it promptly, hard to know what to expect from the pictures, but it is a simple, well made can opener. Like others of this style, the cutting wheel presses flat the cut edge on the can, making it safe, but it is not the side cutting type that keeps the lid safe too. It is sharp and looks built to last and is easily washable, being stainless steel.the handles are angled away from the can, which is a nice feature, especially if you have large cans. Cuts like a breeze and the initial punch through doesn't 't take a lot of effort.

The handles are thicker and sturdy, and I don't seem to have to squeeze ...
Bought a Farberware opener, then a KitchenAid opener. They did the job - if the can was perfectly round and had no irregularities of any sort. Otherwise, I had to constantly reposition the opener and start again, and again, and sometimes again. I've only had the Prime Kitchen opener a couple of weeks, but it's the only opener left in the drawer. The opening mechanism (gears/blade and such) is slightly offset and seems to improve efficiency. The handles are thicker and sturdy, and I don't seem to have to squeeze as hard to keep the opener engaged. It's done exactly what I wanted - opened every can I've tried it on without any hassle. I'm very pleased with it.

Use a dull spoon, it's more effective than this opener.
I bought this opener because I was tired of all of the junk openers at Wal-Mart, Target, etc. I figured this opener would be like the ones Grandma used. I was disappointed. This opener is weak. if you squeeze the handles together you can feel them "flex" or should I say 'bend"? I had to go around the can twice to get it to open. I will not recommend this item to anyone. I would rather use the junk from the dollar store, at least then you know you what you are going to get.In a nutshell: It's junk.
