Music City Metals03120 Spark Generator Replacement for Select Gas Grill Models by Amana, Aussie and Others

Works great for me
I got this to replace one of those battery powered ignitors that always seem to malfunction in any grill I have ever owned. It seems that either they get water damage, or the battery leaks acid in the battery compartment, ruining it, or the contacts get a skin of sorts over them, forcing me to reach down into the tiny little AA sized compartment, to scrape the contacts clean. I have a little 'cheapo' portable grill I got at Sam's club some years ago, with this type of ignitor, and it still works fine, which prompted me to order this one. Anyway, I first tried simply plugging the wire to the 'sparker' on the burner, and it wouldn't work. Well, wondering what was wrong made me remove it, and look at it again. I realized that the body was plastic, which is an insulator, meaning there was no way to complete the circuit, and make a spark. Another couple minutes to come up with a wire that would attatch to the flat lug on the side (you see it in the picture right where the body of the spark generator widens, about halfway down the main body of the unit) and attatched the other end of the wire to an existing screw on the metal body of the grill. From that point on, it has worked perfectly. I might note that it only has a contact for one wire going to the 'sparker' on your grill burner, but if your grill is like mine, if you get the middle burner lit, the others will ignite off of it. All I have to remember is to light the center burner first, then turn on the ones on either side of it. No complaints so far, and I highly recommend this sort of unit over the battery powered ones that have never given me good long-term service. The only negative I can think of, would be the amount of force required to depress the red button, to activate the spark. If you have arthritis, or maybe just weak girly fingers, it might not be for you. I'd say it takes close to 10 pounds of force, to overcome the internal mechanism, and trigger the spark. The feeling is kind of like using an industrial staple gun, as you feel spring tension against the button, which gets stronger the more you press down, until right at the end of its travel, the spring suddenly 'lets go' with a loud 'clidk', which is when the spark is activated.

Good for starting torches
I have a wire connected to the side ground terminal and then I have the other end of the wire over-hanging the tip. This allows for a spark at the end, which I then use to start my oxy-ace torch at work.It works like a charm almost every time and sure beats the awkward striker we'd been using.Definitely recommended, especially at a low price point.

thought it was a piezo that uses a double a battery but it works and is more quiet than the rest

Good If Your Grill Works With Push Button
Tried to fix gas grill with this but spark still too weak. I think it was the grill's electrode that wasn't designed well. Decided to install an electronic spark generator instead.

Quality Varies, You Might Get a Good One...Might Not
Seems the quality of these units vary a lot.Mine had 2 issues.1: It did not produce a spark each time it was pressed. These times it felt a little 'soft' and did not spark. Pulling the red button back out and pushing it again would make it reset and you can try again.2: the spark was not bright and blue like the OEM, more of a yellow. One side note, a previous reviewer indicated the jam nut was plastic, mine was pressed from sheet metal, not solid but not plastic.

Potato gun igniter
this was to be used in a potato gun, but we changed the firing mechanism during the building process and went with a lantern spark igniter instead. I did test this igniter however and it worked fine, I would recommend it for purchase.

Rockets away!
This does what it says it does. How do I know? Well, I held it in my left hand and pushed the button with my right hand. ZAP! That'll make you feel foolish. But it is perfect. I'm using this as the trigger on my hair spray-fueled potato cannon. Perfect

Bisher Sehr gut
